Maybe the electrical connector on the rain sensor could be unplugged to stop it working.

Loud Humming Noise From Front Drivers Side Wheel?
paul.h replied to RichCliff's topic in C5 - Technical
I am pleased you have got this sorted and looking back through the posts you were right all along about it being the driver's side wheel bearing. Maybe you have a found a garage now that you can use for the future that possibly you could trust. I have added this topic to the C5 Common Problems pinned topic. Wheel bearing failure may not be common but deciding on which wheel one has failed is not easy and your experience may help others. -
Welcome to the forum. Many members of this forum have a C5 so you are in good company. On the C5 Technical section there is a pinned topic of Common Problems that is worth looking at. The 1.6 hdi engine needs frequent oil/filter changes using the correct oil to help avoid early turbo failure. There is a Haynes manual covering the C5 up to the 2008 models that is worth getting.

Air Conditioning Loud Grumbleing When On Full Blast

Welcome to the forum. First check would be to see if the pollen filter is in one piece to see if anything could have got in to the fan. -
Engine Noise/buzzing Once Ignition Has Been Turned Off
paul.h replied to Damian99's topic in C4 - Technical
Welcome to the forum. An internet search suggests the egr valve is actuated for 10 to 15 seconds after the engine is stopped to clean it. Possibly it has become noisier if it needs a good clean or maybe some ducting is loose and also vibrating to make it sound louder. What year and engine is your car ? -
Repairs to the wiper switch are possible but I do not know if it also applies to the lighting switch, see this topic from the C5 Common Problems post: 34. Trip computer does not work or does not display on the screen. This could be due to damage in the switch at the end of the wiper stalk. A copper strip can break but it can be repaired, see http://www.citroen-o...itch#entry30402 and http://www.citroen-o...puter-question/ Rather than wd40, a switch cleaner spray may be better to try if it is just a dirty connection.

That's good. Any chance you could list them on here for future reference ?

There is some info on the outside air intake in the following copied from the C5 Common Problems topic but to get to it the windscreen scuttle has to be removed: 12. Wet driver's footwell, mark 1 C5 (2001 TO 2004 model), mark 2 C5 (2004 to 2008 model) and mark 3 C5 (2008 on model). Rain from the windscreen and the middle grommet of the wiper arm drips in to the cabin air intake, runs down the inside of the cabin firewall and soaks the carpet. It is a bad design of the air intake, not carried over to the mark 2 C5. I fixed this on our hatchback by putting a plate under the wiper grommet over the air intake to direct water away, put holes in the air intake to drain water before reaching the firewall, used lots of sealant behind the holes and at the firewall. This problem has also been reported on the mark 2 C5 due to a build up of debris below the bulk head - see this topic from Mike Lane http://www.citroen-o...ess/#entry85106 This problem has also been reported on the mark 3 C5 - see this topic http://www.citroen-o...ter-getting-in/

Hopefully the head gasket has not failed and possibly it was a fueling problem. I would be reluctant to try a sealant since it may need to be cleaned out later and then it may not work. A relative thought his Rover 25 head gasket had failed since the coolant level dropped and could be seen dripping a bit on the floor and they have a reputation for failing. An expensive sealant was tried and worked a few days but then it was worse - when checked properly it turned out the water pump was leaking. To check the head gasket you may also need a compression test since it could have failed between cylinders and not between a cylinder and the cooling system so a sniffer test in the coolant may not show anything.

I might have to do this on our 2007 C5 since there seem to be a few leaves collecting under the scuttle and without removing the scuttle there is no easy access for a vacuum hose. I have considered cutting out the mesh at the ends of the scuttle and then fitting something else back to then allow easy frequent cleaning. I recently vacuumed out this area on our C3 by removing some foam inserts and using a caravan drain hose (possibly 22 mm diameter) on the end of the vacuum cleaner pipe. On the C5 model up to 2004 the air inlet to the cabin has a plastic duct with a mesh to keep leaves out. This collects water that drips off the windscreen and a wiper spindle grommet and then directs it in to the driver's footwell. This duct is not on the 2004 on models - did you notice if a mesh is still over the air inlet since when replacing the pollen filter on our 2007 C5 there were a few small leaves in there ? I have included this topic in the C5 Common Problems topic ander the section of water in the driver's footwell since this is the first report on here of it happening on a mark 2 C5.

One problem sorted and now another one, this is often the case when you get a car new to you and then the previous owner's faults need sorting. Can any replies to the gear box problem be posted in the new topic here so they are all in one place http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/22921-auto-gear-fault/?do=findComment&comment=85093

I can not imagine how brake pads would cause the problem but see 3rd paragraph. You would be best to get a Citroen dealer to do a diagnostic check for the fault and then go back to the car dealer but the Citroen dealer would charge for this. It is possible the car dealer does not have the right diagnostic equipment to do a proper check. If they are changing the brake pads is this because they are worn out and the car should not have been sold in this condition - you could use a torch to see how thick the pad friction material is and also if the brake discs are worn since usually by the time pads have worn out the discs have also worn to their minimum thickness. However, despite above thoughts, a search shows the C4 auto box goes to 3rd gear as a default setting and in this link the problem was solved for one owner by replacing worn brake pads and discs and also the brake pedal sensor http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/?t=90102 .So let the dealer replace the pads, try and get new discs as well, and see if the problem goes. If not, then maybe a visit to a Citroen dealer may be needed.

Welcome to the forum. How many miles has the car done ? Have a look at the rear engine mounting to see if it is worn but if not it could be the clutch is at fault, possibly worn out or oil on the friction face (clutch plate) from an oil leak. It could help if you bleed the clutch master/slave cylinder - this should be done every 2 years at the same time as the brake fluid is changed. Also check the cv joints at the wheel hubs to make sure the rubber boots are not damaged and leaking grease out.

A search on your fault 'right rear wheel sensor signal coherence' came up with the following with a few possible causes to check http://bba-reman.com/forums/PrintTopic101963.aspx

Libraries often have Haynes manuals in them if you do not wish to buy one. The copy I have for the Picasso covers up to 2002 so there must be a more recent version available and if the removal of the swivel hub, brake pads and brake disc is included there are 13 columns of writing covering the bearing replacement. Based on the models up to 2002, first the brake pads and brake disc need removing, then the swivel hub needs removing (drive shaft nut 320 Nm but it could be different on newer models, it may be possible to undo this before doing the brakes with the wheel on the car and lowered to the ground or something fastened to the hub to stop it turning as the nut is undone. If you have alloys with no central hole then the steel spare wheel may be used), then the hub flange knocking out of it and then the bearings knocked out if a press is not available. A large circlip needs removing and a new one should be used. A bearing puller might be needed if the inner race sticks to the hub (or you could cut it off with an angle grinder). The hub contact faces for the bearing should be cleaned up and a bit of grease or oil applied to ease fitting of the new bearing. It is a long time since I last replaced a wheel bearing but I used old bearing shells against the new one as a spacer and hit the old shell with a hammer to knock the new one in. Obviously if the outer shell was being located inside the hub an old outer shell was held against it.

Welcome to the forum. There is a Haynes workshop manual for the C4 which you would find useful. When fitting aftermarket radios often things on the car will no longer work such as the steering wheel controls, so you would need to check this before you buy the new radio. From the Haynes manual to remove the A pillar trim: - prise the weather seal from the area of the trim - pull the trim away from the pillar starting at the top being careful not to damage the wiring loom which may be fastened to the pillar. The trim panels under the facia are held by plastic rivets which are removed by first pulling out the inner plastic pins. The trim panels at the side of the footwells are held by screws. The facia end panels are removed by pulling them free of their retaining clips. With these removed you may be able to thread the new wire without having to remove any more of the dashboard.

Initially you said the boot would unlock using the remote but not when using the switch, so I guess now it will not unlock at all except by using something in the back of it. The next easy thing to check will be the wiring where it goes from the car body to the boot. It is common for it to become damaged here. When the switch was out did you check the earth wire continuity to the body? A dealer will be able to sort the problem but you will have to pay and they may want to do a diagnostic check to make sure everything works, including the locks and ecu that controls them.

The RTA manual for the C5 says the fuel tank needs lowering a bit but to do this it says to undo the abs sensor connectors (via the floor hole), undo the fuel pump pipes at the same place, remove the exhaust, remove the fuel tank heat shields, put a tool under the fuel tank (use a board on a jack to spread the load and probably best to do it on a low fuel level), remove the tank bolts and then lower the tank to reach the abs wiring to unclip it (it probably does not need lowering much). Remember to use axle stands under the car so the suspension will not drop. You could also consider poking a wire and string around the tank so a new sensor could be tried by using the string to pull its connector back to the floor hole. Then see if the abs works - this would prove the fault without having to lower the tank and the clips could be fastened later.

If the turbo went you could have the same symptoms apart from the oil filler mayonaisse - but you would probably only get this if the head gasket had failed to the oil way, whereas getting white smoke in the exhaust due to gasket failure is steam from coolant going in to a cylinder. Has the coolant level dropped which would help confirm the head gasket failure ? Has the oil level dropped - a sign of turbo failure ? Have you noticed the mayonnaise before which can be a sign of short trips or the engine running cold. You could also look for any hoses that have come apart. Haynes do not do a manual for this engine so for guidance you would need the Citroen service box which comes on 3 dvds and is installed on your pc.

I would have thought the anti pinch would prevent the windows closing with your dogs heads in the way. You could check this with something else such as a rolled up paper that would not damage the glass.

Welcome to the forum. What year is your car and model and which engine does it have ? Does everything on the car work - lights, battery charging, air conditioning ? If your car does not have air conditioning then it could be a connector to the air con compressor which would be located below the alternator.

Welcome to the forum. A Citroen dealer should be able to provide the code if you take your car VIN. They may or may not charge for this and it could take them a few days to get the code. Once you have the code this topic has some info on how to enter it: http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/21920-entered-incorrect-radio-code/

Welcome to the forum. If the depollution warning is given and the engine management light is on there will be a fault code and freeze frame data when the fault occurred which will give a good idea of what is wrong. So you should have the fault codes read. There are many things that could be wrong such as the air flow meter or a lambda sensor. If you just try replacing parts without checking the fault code you could waste a lot of money before finding the actual fault.

I would give the engine a good check over when you get it, they may be prone to oil leaks and can use oil. Our 2010 C3 is on about 28k miles and has the 1.4 vti engine and the oil use varies but can be 1 litre in 2000 miles. It had an oil leak where the wiring for a solenoid to do with the oil pump enters the engine at the back and this was fixed under the warranty. There are also signs it may be weaping a bit of oil from the rear or side near the top at the timing chain end - it is hidden by attachments but a common leak point can be the timing chain tensioner. Internet searches on the vti engine come up with a few things on leaks and oil use.

Welcome to the forum. Bearing shells have a part number and make on them which you can use at any bearing shop to get a new one. This should be a lower cost than getting a replacement gearbox. A Citroen dealer will also sell you the needle bearing, which if I have got the right part may be part no. 234311 and cost about £14 but you need to check this. You could check the other bearings in the gearbox for roughness and play to see if they need replacing but you would need to open the gearbox to do that. Whether the 8v and 16v gearboxes are interchangeable I do not know but the Citoren parts diagrams may help. You can see these as a free service if you register on the service.citroen site as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres
