Which engine does it have ? Have a look in the C5 tecnical section Common Problems pinned topic. Something to start checking are all the small diameter rubber hoses for splits, especially at the connections on the various sensors/actuators - do this before thinking about replacing the egr valve or anything to do with the turbo.

2008 Citroen C5 Exclusive Front Suspension Leaking Problem.

On the technical section pinned common problems topic there is more info on the steering rack leak but it seems a recon rack is the solution people are using. -
Cooling Fan Not Operating - Electric Cooling Pump Fault
paul.h replied to Brian50's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Has the engine overheated to make you think the fan is not working ? Best way to check is with a code reader that has live data so you can see what the coolant temperature is. Citroen typically use 96°C for the fan to start but to achieve this really needs the car stationary with the bonnet closed and the engine running. On one of the C5 sections there is a pinned diagnostic help topic and there may be somebody near you with a lexia. -
2008 Citroen C5 Exclusive Front Suspension Leaking Problem.
paul.h replied to JPW's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
I have put your car details in your signature, you can edit this if you go to your profile. This saves having to mention it every time you start a new topic. Slight oil misting on the front suspension struts is considered normal on the C5 with hydractive suspension, the oil coming out of the seal where the piston goes out/in. You should be able to see it as a slight film of oil on the struts if you raise the suspension and then look through the wheel arches at the struts. Before taking the car for an MOT it is wise to wipe this off to avoid risking a failure, particularly if you use a garage who is not familar with the suspension. Misting should not be enough to need the lds suspension fluid to need topping up. If in the future you have the struts replaced the misting will stop but you should not need to replace them unless the oil loss down the struts gets bad. If the lds fluid is needing to be topped up have a look at the steering rack where the steering column joins since the oil seals there can leak. A new front strut seems to be about £230, part nos. 5271L5 and 5271L6. As an example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5271L5-FRONT-LEFT-SHOCK-ABSORBER-RAM-CITROEN-C5-C6-/222249924753 . The labour to replace both together is about 3 hours, so you could expect a bill of around £700 at a Citroen dealer which is nowhere near the guess of up to £1500. -
C5 Mk3 2012 1.6 Thp Air Conditioning Not Working
paul.h replied to Brian50's topic in C5 - Technical
I have moved this to the C5 section since it is more likely to be read by C5 owners. To find the fault you may need to have a diagnostic check at a Citroen dealer. When you switch on the air con, (needs the cabin blower to be on also), can you hear the air con compressor kicking in ? Does the engine fan work since this also needs to run when the air con is working ? It could be a pressure sensor on the compressor is faulty but to check this will need a diagnostic and possibly to replace it the refrigerant will need removing and then putting back in. It could also be a fault with the temperature sensor which prevents the air con working if below about 6°C. -
A lpg conversion could be around £2000 on top of the petrol engine conversion. If your idea is to lower fuel costs then I would think to recover this by using lpg you will need to do many 10000s of miles. A search on relay van lpg conversion came up with this old advert for a van for sale which says £1800 lpg conversion https://www.gumtree.com/p/vans/citroen-relay-gas-conversion-petrol-2-l-/1164898582 If you really want a van running on lpg then it might be cheaper to try and buy one already converted.

Welcome to the forum. I suspect you have translated your post so it is a bit confusing. Did all the dash lights come on/not work at the same time or have they happened over some time ? First, what car is it (C3), year (2003), engine, manual or auto gearbox, how many miles/km has it done ? Is the car working normally apart from the lights on the dash ? It might be there is a problem with the instrument panel such as a bad connection. When disconnectiong the battery do not do it too soon after removing the ignition key and closing the doors since the bsi needs time to shut down. This is from the C3 Common Problems pinned topic: 20. Odd electrical problems caused by wrong battery disconnection procedure. If you need to disconnect the battery and not do a BSI reset procedure, I have found the following has not given me any problems on a 2004 and 2007 C5 and a 2003 C3: - remove the ignition key from the car - open the bonnet - wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down - disconnect the battery negative terminal When reconnecting - ignition key out of the car - reconnect the battery - wait a few minutes - insert the key in the ignition and wait a minute - turn the key to the first position and wait a minute - turn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute - start the engine - take the windows down and up to reset the anti pinch - reset the clock (and radio on the C3).

2008 Citroen C5 Exclusive Front Suspension Leaking Problem.
paul.h replied to JPW's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Welcome to the forum. Is your car the 2008 on C5 or the 2001 to 2008 model and which engine does it have ? Where exactly is the lds fluid leaking from since you say suspension joints which I can only guess may be pipe connections on the suspension. If it is a suspension strut that is leaking or the steering rack that is leaking you need to specify. A leaking steering rack is common on the 2008 on C5 model needing a new rack or reconditioned one - new possibly around £1000 or reconditioned about £300 - see the C5 Technical section pinned Common Problems topic for details. I suspect you have not been to a Citroen dealer for the estimate. I had a front strut replaced by our dealer on a 2007 C5 in 2012 and it was £442 including about 1 hour labour since it is a quick job. If you are only having a leak from a pipe joint then it would be far less than this. For suspension work I would always prefer to use a Citroen dealer since they know the system and most jobs are only about 1 hour labour so you can not save much elsewhere if you are unable to do the work yourself. -
You could check the lds fluid level is correct, also changing it can help the ride. If it is the 2008 on C5 the handbrake is on the rear wheels but if it is the 2001 to 2008 C5 the handbrake is on the front wheels. Also, as well as the model year, which engine does your car have since on the 2008 on C5 (X7 model), the electric handbrake is only on the exclusive models but may also be on the 2.2 hdi ones which also have the hydractive suspension. I would not do the clutch/handbrake test too often since it may shorten the clutch / dmf life. This test though would not be any different to having a brick / kerb against the wheels instead of the handbrake on and is not really a good test. Using a brick might stop the car running down a hill which you have said your handbrake also does, but you could not rely on a brick stopping the car if moving as a handbrake should do in the rolling road test.

Possibly a lamp in the back of the control panel needs replacing. I am not sure, but the radio may first need removing to get to the back of the panel and then maybe a couple of screws removing so the panel can be moved. Removing the radio should be by using the U shaped wire tools, or a couple of screwdrivers, pushed into the holes at the 2 sides of the radio and then pulling it out.

I would not think the abs has anything to do with the handbrake since abs works with a pump and valves that control the brake fluid to the calipers. The handbrake works by cables pulling on levers on the calipers. There is nothing in the MOT testers manual about needing the engine running or not when testing electronic handbrakes. It must be able to work with the engine running though, otherwise you would not be able to hold the car on a hill when stopped such as at traffic lights.
-
I am not sure but I would think a used one can be programmed to your car. Since a used one does not cost much I think it worth just trying one without the diagnostic until later on. Forgot to ask before, why do you need a new ecu ?
-
On internal circulation if the air con is not working then the air will not cool down, it can only get warmer. If you do not use a Citroen dealer then you may be better using one since they can do a diagnostic check to see what is wrong, rather than trying things until eventually the fault is fixed. The C5s I had regassed at a Citroen dealer and they were not any more expensive than elsewhere.

Welcome to the forum. I always use Citroen dealers for MOTs and never had a problem. When something has failed it has been something definitely wrong. Only time when I was not sure was at an Evans Hallshaw Citroen dealer and they failed a C3 on every orange indicator bulb as needing replacement and later I noticed a locating lug on the fuse box lid had been cut off and a clip on the air filter was missing - we only used them this once but never went there again and it put us off this company. The handbrake test is on a rolling road so will be more stringent than putting it on once the car has stopped moving. So it may well be below the required efficiency. It might need the brake pads/discs cleaning up or even replacing but it did not fail on the rear brakes. Possibly the electric brake mechanism or the calipers need some work which unfortunately also involves a diagnostic to calibrate it and hence needs to involve a Citroen dealer or specialist with the correct equipment which I guess your MOT garage will not have.

The Citroen part number for the ecu is 6546E6 for one that needs configuring or 8216AS for one configured for your car using your VIN. So you will need a replacement ecu to be configured to your car which will need a diagnostic, probably at a dealer. This is to tell the ecu what air bags are fitted and pretensioners and to check that none of them have any faults. If from a car withthe same air bags, etc as yours, it might just be possible to fit a used one and it might be ok but without the diagnostic you will not know if it has been programmed so all your air bags/pretensioners work. A search on 'C5 air bag ecu' comes up with a few used ones such as this which appears to have the same part no of 9641968380 https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/?iid=162481166978&&&adgroupid=33676502101&rlsatarget=pla-270397344923&abcId=893836&adtype=pla&merchantid=7320304&poi=&googleloc=9047021&device=c&campaignid=707291931&crdt=0&chn=ps

There is no mention of needing any resets/diagnostics in the Citroen service box procedure for replacing the wiper motor. Did you also check the near side wiper motor, in one of the posts on this it says: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning I'll be honest the auto spark didn't show me a 'ribbon', what he did show me was literally several rectangular strips of aluminium approx the length of a fingernail, that he said had been folded double encompassing the end of connecting wiring, these 'strips' then fed into the bottom of the motor. I would imagine this wiring and the method used to connect them are used to transfer power/ecu messages to the motors themselves. He basically said that when they pulled the motors out they noticed the corrosion on these metal strips/connectors....their fix was to strip them back and attach fresh metal connectors..... Your issues sound like mine, the OS side stopped working first and because they have a separate ECU and designed to work in tandem the NS wouldn't work as a precaution other wise they'd clatter together. ..with this fix in place i haven't had a problem since.... I don't use dealers tbh, this autospark was recommended to me by my regular independent Citroen guy i've used for goin on ten years. Hope u get sorted.

Welcome to the forum. Why do you need to disable the egr system, is it giving running problems ? The egr system recycles exhaust gases to cool the combustion to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides. On newer diesels adblue is also added to further reduce these gases. A lot of the health concerns and possible future restrictions on diesels in towns is from the emission of these gases as well as the particulates. If you live outside Europe then maybe there is not the concern about the emissions / affect on health. I have not disabled an egr valve so the following is just a guess. I am not sure on the effect on running but the combustion might be hotter which could give better combustion and maybe less particulates - if so it might help the dpf. However, the engine/controls will not have been designed for this so it may not run as well and possibly the egr system might block up so when it is put back to original when you want to sell it, it might need a good clean.

I have not done this job, but have you slid the centre console backwards to disengage any lugs at the front end before lifting it up. Also it may be possible to use a hand inside the gear lever aperture to push up the esp button and cig lighter out of the console and then their connectors removed.

Ramps And Garage Hire In Knutsford Cheshire
paul.h replied to Databeat1's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
I have moved this topic in to a subforum, otherwise it would not show after a couple of days. Have a look at the C5 Technical section pinned topic of Common Problems for a few things to check on your car, leaking steering racks and wiper motors not working are a couple that can be expensive but can possibly be prevented by greasing the rack input shaft and sealing the wiper motor electrics. If you do your own maintenance then the Citroen service box on 3 dvds is worth getting through ebay. It is the workshop manual/wiring diagrams/parts diagrams. Most recent copies seem to be 2014. You can also see the parts diagrams free if you register on service.citroen as an other professional non emergency services and as a member of the Citroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres Once on the site use your VIN (VIS) top left to find your car. -
Welcome to the forum. If your car has halogen head light bulbs then you will not have the head light washers, they are just a requirement on xenon lights. The cut outs are so Citroen only have 1 part for all the bumpers.

Welcome to the forum. There could/should be a sticker under the bonnet that gives the type of refrigerant. Most people would wait until the air con is not cooling as much before bothering to have a regas. On our C5 this was about 7 years old, similar to our last one. On our previous C3 this was after we sold the car at 10 years old and our current C3 is 7 and not needed a regas yet. Our C4s have been kept to about 4 years and none have been done. You can do a quick check if it needs doing by using a thermometer at a central vent with the air con on full - it should drop the temperature about by about 10°C. Once it is not dropping the temp much then that would be a time to think about a regas. One important thing though is to use the air con every 2 weeks or so to keep the seals lubricated and prevent gas loss. Disinfecting the air con to remove mould from the evaporator needs doing if you notice a wet dog smell when the air con has been turned off but the air still blowing in to the cabin. Dealers will recommend it needs doing every year or so since it earns money. If it does not smell though it is ok. To help prevent the build up of mould I turn the air con off but leave the blower on for the last mile to dry out the condensation that collects on the evaporator. I disinfect our cars by using a fine spray of Dettol non bleach surface cleanser in to the cabin air inlet with the pollen filter removed and the blower on so it goes to the evaporator matrix. I once had it disinfected at a dealer and the cleaner they used smelt just like the Dettol one. I have also tried an aerosol type that is set off inside the car with the blower on recycle - all this did was fill the car with a perfume that smelt of apples and cost a lot more than the Dettol. The spray I use is a garden type with a lance which on the C5 is useful since the evaporator is accessible when the pollen filter is removed. http://www.dettol.co.uk/products/surface-cleansers/dettol-antibacterial-surface-cleanser/ this is available for a couple of ponds from most supermarkets.
