I have had problems with the gear box since buying the car new. It wasn't going into gear. Citroen told me it was the clutch and charged me £600 to have it replaced (not covered by the warranty). I am not sure if they have interfered with my gear box and not properly filled it with oil.

I have had problems with what sounds like a noisy differential. I would like to check if there is oil in the gear box, but I am not sure where to check. Can anyone tell me where I should be looking? Also what sort of oil I should use?

Thanks for your advice. Yes it does appear strange that there is no slipping or juddering, just difficulty in selecting reverse and stiff going into first. It is probably more likely to need adjusting on the cable, I have read on the Aygo forum that some people have experienced problems with the end of the clutch cable becoming detached. You would have thought that any decent mechanic at the main dealers would have been able to diagnose and sort it out then and there. However without sounding too synical £500 for a new clutch not covered under warranty would be much more profitable for the main dealers than having to adjusting a nut or replacing a faulty cable. I have found that by turning the engine off before selecting reverse stops the grinding noise that makes everyones heads turn when I try to select reverse with the engine running. Still it's not ideal for a car thats only 2 years old. I will probably get a second opinion as you say.

I am having difficuty selecting 1st and reverse gears. The main dealers tell me I need a new clutch, not covered by the warranty, and will cost over £500. (The car is only just comming up to 30,000 miles) I am suprised it needed changing so quickly. The clutch kit only costs about £50. I am toying with the idea of changing the clutch myself. Has anyone any experience of changing the clutch in one of these cars?
