  1. check the egr valve . start with the vacuum on it then check that it is opening and closing correctly
  2. And thats exactly what it is paul. every time the pump makes an alteration the lights flicker due to the current been drawn and then the lights go back to normal when the regulator on the alternator compensate for it
  3. check inside the slave cylinder to make sure the oil seal isnt in there
  4. gearbox or snubber mounting gone
  5. use live data on the diagnostic to see whats hapening. check diesel/air filter and all connections
  6. as paul has said it definately sounds like the resistor has gone
  7. depends on if you have the hydo suspension if not then just push them back and only 1 bolt to undo
  8. Join the citroen/peugeot trade club and then get a price from the dealer. puting the wrong or not enough oil in will cost you a fortune to put right. with the dealers your covered if anythng goes wrong. We were paying around the £100 mark. But were lucky up here as we got a great citroen dealer (town center citroen). Alan in the parts is 1st class . if your not to far away then book it in there and have half a day shopping in sunderland.
  9. its probally one of the vacum solenoids that is designed to run on after the engine is swithced off. they make some wierd noises when they go wrong. start with the turbo solenoid
  10. glow plugs basicly go by the engine and not the year. if its a 8 valve then there easy to get to and change. If its the 16 valve engine then there a pig. right up at the back of the engine and in between the manifold ports 1st 2 on the right are ok to do but the last 2 are just pigs
  11. forced regen are very traumatic for your engine and not something we advise people to do. the miles you do each day arnt the issue with your fault its the fact that they will be at various speeds. you need a constant speed/time so the ecu can complete a full regen. Why would they need to do a forced regen on a new dpf. theres nothing in there to clear out and the ecu already has its values and limits.. replace the dpf top up eolys (if needed) and the jobs done so maybe think about a 2nd opinion
  12. Asuming the car is serviced and timing belt is good . take the car for a bloody good run and work the engine through the gears then get it on the motorway ( out of rush hour/busy times) getting it up to 70/80 in 5th gear for a good half hour. While your doing 30ish miles a day on motorway you wont be getting a constant speed to build the pressures up in the exhaust and the egr sytem
  13. you need to slacken the handbrake cable off ( remove rear ashtray and youl see a 13mm nut) to adjust/set these handbrakes up properly Raise both front wheels of the ground Slacking the handbrake cable right off pull handbrake lever on 5 notches tighten handbrake cable until both front wheels lock. weve had cars in were the handbrake only has 3 notches on them and can result in wheel drag and the calliper overheating and binding on
  14. where your sphere joins the hydraulic ram. look for signs of corrosion as this is where the leak comes from. we have been 50/50 sucsessfull in using quick steel to stop these leaks. otherwise its a new ram
  15. View new content. right hand side of screen under top banner or in your profile under my topics
  16. your right mike thats why im asking for the engine code. if its RHR then its a 6speed box with a dual mass in it. there a really heavy box to do and weve found thats its easier to replace the dual mass with a solid flywheel (4 in 1 clutch)
  17. any scrappy should have a alternator in. or u can get your reconed for arounf £50
  18. Hope your not as I've got 8 of them ha ha . hello and welcome to the forum. c5 are very good cars and with a bit care will last you many miles. so no your not mad m8
  19. try replacing the switch. youve got power to the mirrors as they are moving
  20. if you plug it into a lexia diagnostic then the fault will be in the stored codes. its electronic steering pump on them and is linked to the speedo so to make the steering a bit heavier at higher speeds. without knowing any codes id start by looking at one of the abs sensors as it also doubles up as the speedo pick up as well. it will be on one of the front wheels and although not 100% sure i think its on the passenger side
  21. im fairly certain its a automatic tensioner for the fan belt paul. If you look a image number 4 under the power steering pully youl see two pullys the one on the left is the tensioner yoi just put a spanner on it and pull it back to release the tension on the belt. remove the belt then let the tension of the tensioner .. Would be a good idea to take a picture of the belt route so you no which way it goes back on. . re the hex bolts I'm sure there a 6 or a 8 but you can get a set of 8 for around £4
  22. hello and welcome to the forum.
  23. ok then lets go. WHATCH WHAT YOUR DOING WITH THE BLACK PLASTIC POWER STEERING RESEVOIR. it will snap off very easy . If this is your 1st atempt may i sugest a bottle of tcp and some sticky plasters. remove the negative (--) lead from the battery and remover the fan belt ( if your not sure u tube has videos on it) The pulley on the power steering has 4 holes in it . you want to set the holes at 12 /.3/ .6. and 9 o'clock. look thru the holes at 6 and 9 o'clock and you see 2 Allen key bolts these need to be removed. now at the back of the power steering pump you will see 1 more bolt ( this might be a 13 mm bolt)either at 12 or 6 o'clock. remove this one and the pump will be loose. see if there is enough slack on the power steering pipes to allow you to lift the pump out of the way. if not then you will have to remove the pipes to the power steering pump. watch the bottom pipe as it fits on to a plastic spout that will snap if you not careful . with the pump out of the way you will see the alternator remove the main wire (13mm niut) and either the 8 mm nut or mufti plug (feed wire). next look at the alternator and you will see either 2 or 4 bolts holding it on (depending on type as I cant see from photos ) remove these and the alternator will come out with a bit of pushing and pulling and skin loss. refitting is the reversal of the above. .
  24. swapping the alternator is 1 hours labour. max and a very simple job. if you can post a pic of the engine il give you a right up on what to do. but wont be till tomorrow mind
