pads on modern day cars are made alot harder so they are more effective. the more the pad eats into the disc when braking the more friction it causes resulting in better brakes. thats why they are wearing discs so quick. most citroen brakes squeal from day 1. more so if they have rear discs. pads and discs will wear quicker on automatic car as they have very little engine braking
