  1. Nice one -- Spot on DavidH Many thanks
  2. Thanks again dave. If the washer and wipers share the same fuse, then the fuse is not my problem since all wipers work ok. I was hoping to find a fuse or relay that was dedicated to the washer pump as this is the only component (front and rear) not working. Suspicions must next fall on the washer pump itself, access to which is not immediately obvious. And Haynes have seen fit not to produce a manual for this model/year. Oh deep joy.
  3. Thanks Dave. In my Owner's Handbook, F24 is listed as "Audio Sysrem". Is it likely (or even possible) that both share the same fuse ?
  4. I have a 2002 Xsara 1.4......... (no Haynes manual available). My drivers handbook has the usual section on fuses and relays, but makes no mention at all of the fuse/relay for the screenwasher pump. Possibly it shares with the wiper motor, but the book makes no suggestion of this. Does anyone know which fuse/relay covers the screenwasher pump ?
  5. The dipped beam warning light is in the habit of flashing on my Xsara. When this happens, the headlights themselves are automatically switched on. This happens while actually driving. It lasts for about 10 seconds or until I lightly touch the light control stalk. I don't think it's telling me to switch my lights on because it happens in broad daylight. But it's very disconcerting that such a thing could happen outside my control. Other drivers might think I'm inviting them to pull out in front of me. Does anyone know about this feature ?
  6. This is just for your information........ The little orange light that's shaped like an engine came on recently (Xsara 1.4 LX 2002). Tha handbook says "Consult Citroen Dealer asap". Checked with local Citroen dealer...... it would need to be booked in for a day, and would cost 1 hr (=£70.00 + vat) just to put it on the machine to have the problem diagnosed. But since it could be the start of a serious problem, it needs to be done. Fortunately though, I also have a nearby "backstreet" Citroen specialist. Went along without an appointment. They hooked it up to their machine within minutes, and for no charge told me that it was the final emissions sensor, indicating that the cat might need replacing soon. Also for no charge, they reset the warning light and it hasn't come on again since. I left a tenner in their Xmas box. But my main reason for posting this is to have a gripe....... What on earth are Citroen doing combining such a diversity of sensors into a single warning light. The problem could have been anywhere in the engine, fuel-delivery or exhaust systems !! The only logical answer I can think of is that they're trying to ensure a revenue stream for their dealer/service network. I would have been well naffed-off if I'd shelled out the best part of £90 just to be told that an exhaust component might need replacing soon. Isn't that what £40 MOTs are for ??
  7. Thanks John (for both your replies)
  8. Hi I don't know if you ever got this sorted out, but............. Your noise sounds a lot like what used to be known as "pinking". I don't know if this happens on modern cars with electronic ignition, fuel injection. But on older cars is was generally an indication of either incorrect fuel-grade, or ignition timing incorrectly set.
  9. The only Haynes manual I can find for Citroen Xsara (not Picasso) covers models from 1997 to 2000. I've checked the Haynes catalog, and can't find anything for the 2002 model. Was there a big change in 2000, or would the 1997-2000 manual be ok ? Is there a source other than Haynes ?
  10. I see several previous topics where a Xsara owner has reported fluid leaking into the passenger footwell. Often sweet and sickly smelling. I now have a 2002 Xsara with exactly this problem. But none of the previous posts on this topic are conclusive. Most frequent suggestion seems to be a leak in the heater matrix, but no-one ever seems to have come back and confirmed that this actually was the problem. What is it that makes the sweet sickly smell ? Also, if the heater matrix is the problem, exactly how big a job is it to get at it ? Is it a job for a reasonably competent diy mechanic, or does it have to be Citroen Dealer ? Finally, the only Haynes manual I can find for Citroen Xsara (not Picasso) covers models from 1997 to 2000. I've checked the Haynes catalog, and can't find anything for the 2002 model. Was there a big change in 2000, or would the 1997-2000 manual be ok ? Is there a source other than Haynes ? (I've also covered the Haynes question in a separate post). Thanks in advance Mike
