  1. I think only the Exclusives with xenon lights have washers.
  2. The fan begins to work when it receives information from the engine management that the coolant temperature is rising. It's also busier when the aircon is working. For the fan to continue working for a while after the engine is switched off, especially after a long hard drive on a hot day, is normal. Then once the temperature is reduced, the fan cuts out. First of all you need to find out if the engine is in fact over-heating. Live data from a diagnostic meter is the most reliable figure. Normal running temperature should be around 85C. If the coolant temperature is at this figure or below, then you need to look at the temperature sensor or maybe the relays.
  3. I think you first need to get your battery tested. If you have a volt meter your battery should give a reading of 12.6 or higher first thing before starting. I don't know about C3s but on C5s a failing battery can lead to various electrical anomalies. Which engine do you have?
  4. There you go. I've done it for you.
  5. That sounds as though the pads are loose in the housings. Maybe a previous owner has fitted some inferior pads that are not quite up to spec. But also the holding springs may not have been fitted correctly
  6. If you put your reg number into GSF or ECP website, chances are you'll be taken to the correct sizes for brake discs and pads.
  7. As you are a recent newcomer to Citroen/Peugeot vehicles did you know that there is a correct procedure for disconnected and reconnecting the battery. It's all to do with not upsetting the BSI. This is the method:- Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Ensure all doors are closed and remove the key from the ignition. Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery. Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.). Switch on the side lights through the driver's window. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system. Start the engine and complete the system's check. Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items.
  8. You probably won't notice when the regen takes place. I don't know about the 1.6 version but the 2ltr regenerates about every 5-600 miles. If your very observant you may notice a slight temperature rise or a faint smell.
  9. It's a Citroen 'thing' for recent models to go into economy mode as soon as the battery voltage falls below a certain level. My C5 with its five year old battery goes to economy mode after about 15 minutes. Also if the battery isn't well charged all sorts of faults can be displayed. A power steering fault is a favourite. I would try your car after giving the battery an all night charge.
  10. Save yourself some money and consider this kit instead:- http://www.easydiagnostics.co.uk/#/shop/4589950306/citroen-peugeot-lexia3-evolution-interface/9937210
  11. Did the mechanic read the fault codes before hoisting the car? Since the car now runs, maybe he did and deleted it. Either way, if the EM light is still on you need to find the code. Incidentally, besides a Welcome to the forum, are you the same Blondchaser who visits the CT forum?
  12. I don't think looking at your cambelt will give you much idea of it's age or condition. It probably won't be marked with the Citroen logo either. The two leading makers of belts who supply most car makers are Dayco and Gates. Hanging on a peg in my garage are half a dozen old belts that I've changed over the years. At a glance most of them look fine - one or two need to be twisted inside out to see the cracks at the base of the teeth. If you have doubts about it, get it changed as soon as. Life of a clutch is an unknown quantity. My daughter recently sold her Xsara with 145K on the clock. She'd had it from new and the clutch was showing no signs of weakening. On the other hand, my neighbour bought a new diesel Mini in 2011 and now at 19K the clutch when I looked at it for her was completely gone. She's just spent £800 on it.
  13. Hello Mike & welcome from me as well. Another long-time member of FCF
  14. Thanks Mike for the run down. Hopefully it will be a useful reference for other members.
  15. That sounds as though you need a new Comms 2000 unit. That's the switch unit which is situated below the steering wheel. You can find used ones on ebay but there are many different types. It's most important that the part numbers match. Otherwise it's a visit to the dealer. Also it's possible to get your own overhauled. See BBA Reman. The steering wheel needs to be removed, followed by the airbag. First disconnect the battery then wait at least 10 minutes before removing anything else otherwise the airbag might deploy.
  16. The battery on my Saxo is two years old and last winter I used it last at the end of October. It stood outside until the beginning of March when I fully expected it to be fairly flat however, I got in, turned the key, waited for the glow lamp to switch off and it started first go. Well pleased!
  17. Yes - it might well be. Most car makers produce several versions within the range from a basic car up to a fully equipped version. But then they use the same wiring harness in all the versions. The connectors that are not required on the car are just left hanging.
  18. It's quite a complex job and requires a long description, so you should get yourself a copy of the Haynes manual. The description for the replacement of a wheel bearing is in there and it runs into six columns. You will probably need a garage press to remove and replace the bearing.
  19. Hello. We welcome new members to our forum, however advertising links are not allowed without prior permission therefore I've had to remove yours.
  20. In view of your circumstances, I would not attempt it. Even fully equipped garages run into trouble with head gasket jobs on these engines. Before the head can be removed a lot of stuff has to come off the engine. Not least the injectors. They are invariably difficult to get out because of the length of them - 12" long and the corrosion that you'll find is holding them in. There are companies who specialize in the removal of injectors but it's a costly business if they have to bring the equipment to you.
  21. Hello & welcome to the forum.
  22. If you have the time and the will, a blow by blow write up of the job would make a useful resource for the forum. We are getting more and more C5-X7 owners joining us and I'm sure the window regulator failure isn't going away any time soon.
  23. Debatable about whether you will cause further damage if you don't use it. Were you to get it regassed right now, you may find that the seals were OK and it held the pressure. Leave it another few months and the seals will have dried even more leaving you with a leaking system that will require much more expense.
  24. You're right! Aircon systems don't like not being used. The gas also contains oil which keeps the seals lubricated. If the oil isn't frequently distributed, the seals dry and begin to leak. You don't need a Citreon dealer to service aircon. Many places can leak test and regas. Last time I had two of our cars done, the guy did them on my drive. About £65 each.
