  1. As I said previously, it's best to take the old unit to match against the new. There are two different sizes fitted. One at 65mm dia. The other 70mm. Besides they may sell on a part exchange basis.
  2. In that case - there's checking to be done first - because it may not need a new starter motor. Is the battery fully charged? Check the battery terminals. Check the earthing strap. Make sure the terminals on the starter are clean and tight. Can you hear the solenoid clicking. Does the starter turn over at all?
  3. Who by? Does the car start OK with a full battery or a jump start? There's a range of different alternators fitted to Xantias. It's important that the replacement matches the original. Also there's a range of prices depending on whether the unit is brand new or reconditioned. Best - if you can - is to get the old one off and take it to GSF or ECP to match it.
  4. I don't have a C3 but I guess your washers are like most others. Use a fairly fine needle and put it in the washer jet hole. Move the needle so that it points at the windscreen. Withdraw the needle and try the jet.
  5. And it's probably the rear ones. My C5 went through a period of squealing brakes. I removed the pads, cleaned out all the dust, applied some copper grease to the rear of the pads, and it's been fine ever since.
  6. No! It's held in with a through bolt which needs to be removed - item 12 in the diagram. Even then it will be tight and you may need to knock a chisel point into the split on the hub to open the hole slightly. The lower suspension arm will hold the ball joint in its hole under pressure so you'll need a long lever to force the arm down. All four nuts - item 15 - are self-locking so new ones should be used.
  7. Your problem has been discussed at some length on FCF. I suggest you post your trouble on there. Meanwhile read this:- http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32149&highlight=suspension+seals
  8. Under the bonnet. Down behind the radiator - you'll see the green accumulator sphere. On the block to which the sphere is screwed there's a 13mm hex. Undo it one turn only. Do NOT remove it completely. The anti-sink sphere - which is really a brake pressure accumulator is the centre one between the rear wheels.
  9. If you're sure it's the water pump it would be as well not to use the car any longer. If the water pump decides it's had enough, the cambelt will either break or come off. Either way, the engine will suffer sufficent damage to make it uneconomical to repair. You're looking at a replacement cambelt, new water pump and a check on the pulleys.
  10. On a Xantia most of the braking assistance comes from the front brakes. Also the rear brakes won't work well if the anti-sink sphere is flat. To bleed the rear brakes have the car standing on four wheels with the engine running. Open the pressure regulator screw under the bonnet and let the engine run for a few minutes. Close the screw, put the suspension on high and remove a rear wheel. Wedge down the brake pedal and with the engine running, fit a bleed tube and open a bleed nipple. Fluid should run out. Keep an eye on the LHM level in the reservoir. It may help your MOT test if you go with a couple of bags of sand in the boot since the rear brakes respond to rear axle weight.
  11. You're right! My apologies - Xsara's are different to C5's and some later model Xsaras See below:- http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/Xsarasuspension.jpg
  12. No asbestos - but there is plenty of brake dust around the calipers which is best not breathed in.
  13. Hi Thomas - and welcome to the forum. The three jobs you outline on your ZX are all easy jobs well within the capabilities of average DIY. I've just done discs and pads on my C5 and that was straight forward. Whether or not you have the 'know how' or the capability health wise, only you will know that. I don't know whether parts are much more expensive in Norway but in UK I would expect to pay around 60GBP for discs and pads and maybe 40GBP for flexible hoses. Have a look at https://secure.gsfcarparts.com/shop/
  14. If you still have an undertray fitted, you'll need to remove it. Tool required to undo the sump plug is an 8mm hex socket. Also you'll need a new 14mm squashable copper washer.
  15. This is what you want:- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-C5-XANTIA-XM-LOWER-SUSPENSION-BALL-JOINT-NEW-/390111925786?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5ad47b961a There are tools on the market to assist in removing them. Sealy do one here:- http://www.sealeyonline.co.uk/sx027-lower-ball-joint-socket-peugeot-405-citroen.html
  16. If it's the bottom ball joint you're looking at, then No! it's a screw in joint. It's the same as that on the previous BX and Xantia. The ball screws in and then it's peened into grooves. See the diagram:- http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/Suspension.jpg
  17. Hi - and welcome. The service light can come on for just about any abnormality. Mine came on a week or two ago because one of the wheels had lost a few pounds of air. I also have a fixed flange towbar fitted and my reverse sensors always sound when I go backwards. Either switch them off or change to a removable towball.
  18. In the past I've used Kumho tyres on my C5 and I've found them good and reasonably priced. Your size on the Value-tyres website they do them for £121 a corner. You buy online and choose a fitting centre near to you.
  19. This any good? http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/AXGearchange.jpg
  20. So in that case I would say it's either a lack of lubrication on the pedal pivot, the inner cable is too dry or maybe a return spring on the pedal is stretched/broken.
  21. And does it stay up? Is there spring pressure when you next push it down?
  22. Sometimes they're held by a small screw. If there isn't a screw, use a small screwdriver under the lip and gently prise it off. It's held by a small ridge of plastic at each end. To refit put it inplace and press it on.
  23. I think you're a spammer.
  24. Best of them all is the one the Cit dealers use - a Lexia. If you have around £120 to splash you can get a Chinese copy. Go on ebay and search for 'Lexia 3'
  25. I couldn't say for sure - but at one time I had a Xantia and a Pug 205 both insured separately but both with Churchill. The wife had a small knock in the Pug and after the insurance was sorted, both policies were marked as having had a claim. I argued that the accident had nothing to do with the Xantia, but they were adamant that it was me, the owner who had the claim record. I put the Xantia with another company the following year. But times have moved on - now an insurance company can see at a glance how many cars you have registered.
