  1. The one on mine is built in to the cooling system and is a sealed unit so you have to replace the entire sealed unit, hence the cost. The changing also loses cooling fluid so the antifreeze needs to be topped up, then I was at main dealer prices plus VAT. Altogether not a cheap replacement. Other hints for potential or current 2009 2.0 HDi owners:- The windscreen trim can fly off at speed, this was a recall on early 2009 models and should have been done. There is a recall on late 2009 models for a defective wiper motor which may cause a fire. There was a batch of short wiring harnesses which cause a bad connection on the footbrake switch, this manifests itself as random unexplainable defects, none of which you would expect to come from this fault (including limp mode). Citroen know about it and have produced a short extension piece which fixes the problem but they have not recalled affected cars and only do the work if you complain enough or have a good main dealer. There was also a batch of faulty engine bay fuse boxes which can cause the autobox to fail to select the correct gear.(Mine only gave me third) again Citroen are aware and again they have not bothered to do a recall. My car is now out of warranty due to mileage so I have fitted K&N filters and chipped it to 180 bhp which makes it altogether a better car to drive, Still doing 42mpg with high speed motorway use, can get 46 if I drive like an old man (I am only 60) not bad for a fully laden automatic. I previously had the Avensis 2.2 deisel which I chipped to 200 bhp but it didn't like being so highly tuned so I dropped it to 180 and then it gave me 50mpg which I put down to being a manual gearbox. Don't believe the Toyota Hype, it had more problems than the C5 has.
  2. I changed the fuel filter, it cost £65 for the part and another £60 for the main dealer to do it. It made no difference. I have to say the car runs extremly well and I do 550 to 600 miles a week in it. Given a tank of fuel is £95 an extra £2 to avoid limp mode is well worth while and seems to give slightly better MPG as well. As a motorway cruiser these C5s take some beating.
  3. Just another hint, I use a 2009 C5 exclusive 2.0 HDI and was sufferring the dreaded limp mode about every 6 weeks or so. I satrted adding Redex deisel additive to every tank (I use a full tank every week) and the problem has gone. It obviously helps the regeneration cycle, not sure how but at £4 for two treatments it is worth it for me.
  4. I had this on a C3, I removed the bulb and used a hair dryer on the outside of the lense to dry the condensation off, it can then escape through the hole where the bulb goes. Dont get any one part of the lense too hot and keep the hair dryer moving.
  5. Not wishing to belittle anyone but are you sure its not just the RDS and turning it off would fix the problem?
  6. Had this fault on a similar aged C3 it turned out to be the Mass Air Sensor, no fault codes showed but when the MAS was changed it then showed the EGR at fault so it looked like the two faults counter balanced each other. MAS was £80 and the EGR was about £40 both from the main dealer.
  7. From experience I would suggest that the EGR (Exhaust Gas recirculating) valve is stuck and I would have expected that the dealer would fix this under the sale of goods act which says the item sold must be of merchantable quality and fit for purpose Phone them and lodge a complaint, advise them that if they dont respond satisfactorily you will advise both Citroen and the citizens advice bureau who will provide free legal assistance if required. I would only expect a full service history if the car was advertised as having one. The car is out of warranty so I dont think they will fix the seat. Personally, despite the distance, I would take the car back and kick off in the showroom, preferably on a saturday afternoon when thay are busy and not allow them to move it to a side office. Good luck
  8. If all else fails try some silicon sealant around the edge of the bulb, it should be strong enough to retain it but weak enough to be able to change the bulb. Coat hangers come made in different standards of wire, use one that needs pliers to shape it. If you can easily bend it by hand it will be to weak
  9. Its a bit of bent wire, use the other side as a template and make one from an old coat hanger. Failing that try a brakers yard.
  10. I have a Mitsubishi Challenger, Shogun Sport) which I have blanked of the egr valve, the difference was staggering. I got a plate from the owners club, dont be tempted to use thin metal, if you can cut it with scissors dont use it. It will end up in your engine and ruin it. The EGR valve allows exhaust gasses back into the inlet manifold, blanking it stops that so it doesnt matter how or where you blank it as long as you do. The ball bearing trick only works if the valve is closed, if it is gunked open it wont help, cleaning needs to be outstanding which means taking it off and using a scraper and carburretor cleaner or similar. I changed the EGR on a c3 and the cost was £80 at the main dealer. For your computer, go to www.download.com and search for systemcare free (currently version 4) run it and it should sort out a slow PC. If you really like it you can get the pro version but I believe the internet is about saving money
  11. I had this on a Xantia, it was a failed rear suspension sphere, when it got really bad it was like a normal car with the dampers gone
