Kimosabe, thanks for that. Avons didn't come up on your link but I'm sure I could find them somewhere. Have you used the Avons yourself?

There isn't a recent thread about tyres that I could find, so here goes. I bought a 2009 C5 exclusive, with 17000 miles, a couple of months back, to replace mmy high mileage C5 (Mk1) SX, and noticed at the time the front tyres were a millimetre or two off the wear bars. I don't like to have tyres that are too thinly treaded so I thought I'd do a search on replacements. I could not believe it when I found the Michelin Premacy HP (225/55 R17 W97) tyres were £202 from a mainstream dealer and the cheapest I could find them was £190. I had to check to make sure this wasn't for two! ( £800< for a full set!! ) Tyres for my old (Mk1) C5 were under £100. Well, astonishment over. My question is... Does anyone know of another tyre that suits the latest C5 that is safe, lasts well and doesn't break the bank? Your input will be appreciated. Cheers Turbofan

Hallo Mikey, There is a common problem with C5 aircon fans with them either running at full chat or not working at all. As you've been checking fuses, presumably it's not running at all...... If when you switch on the LCD depiction of a fan lights up but goes out when you try to use the fan controls then the solution to your problem is to replace the solid state controller, probably. You can find the controller from the drivers footwell, just near where you would rest your clutch foot. On the left side of the footwell, then, is a piece of the footwell lining that is removeable and when it's out you will be able to see a couple of green wiring loom connectors plugged into an item that is held in place by two hex headed screws. Unplug the connectors and remove the screws. Withdraw the controller and you'll know that you have the right piece if it's got an ally heat sink that you've just withdrawn from one of the aircon airways. As far as I can make out the part is not user serviceable (but I expect someone will prove me wrong) and it is quite expensive. Mine cost me £56 from a Citroen main dealer early this year. Reverse the procedure with the replacement controller and that's that....probably. Tip. The hex headed screws are very difficult to reach due to their location. I found a bit of bluetack in the socket worked wonders. Best of luck

Thanks for the suggestion, Smokescreen. I feel stupid, now. Why didn't I think of that. Turbofan.

It might sound a silly question but, has your ball hitch got a cover on it? I have a flange type tow hitch on My C5(3) and, when naked with shiny white metal tow ball exposed, the reversing sensors are really irritating. With the black shiny soft plastic tow hitch cover on everything returns to normal. Reversing sensors do their job again. On another question does anyone know how to disable the seatbelt audible alarm? I often drive off-road and don't use a seatbelt as I'm not driving fast and there aren't any crash hazards.

I'm sorry I cant give an answer but I'm certainly interested in finding out what it is as I have a C5Mk3 Exclusive, which also has tyre sensors. I haven't got a problem at the moment but I'm not far away from having to get new front tyres and I'd like to know if there are any problems with that. )

This seems to be a fairly common problem despite which the garage that was servicing and MOTing my car were not only unwilling or unable to deal with but also quoted a "likely price" of £350 to fix. LMC at Kingsley are not my favourite garage. You have described the fault fairly accurately and the defective part is the sensor that is built into the air-con airway by the drivers' feet. It cost me earlier this year £56 and took about 20 minutes to fix. If you look at the felt-like trim lining by where your clutch foot would rest and remove it(it's about hand sized and comes out easily)you'll find the end of a solid state unit held in with two bolt headed screws and connected with two green block connectors. (obiously)remove the connectors and the screws to withdraw the unit. You'll know you have the right piece if the inner end is like an ally finned heat sink. The part is common to Peugeot as well as Citroen. The only real difficulty is the location of the part which requires the dexterity of a gynaecologist and the physical flexibility of a contortionist to access it. Best of luck. BTW these parts fail in two ways, either not running the fan at all or running at full blast. Open or short circuit presumably.

It's probably just a lubrication problem, or rather, a lack of lube. Try pulling the door towards you from the inside while someone outside operates the handle. You'll probably find the door will open. When it does give a treat with WD40 or ACF50. This was the fix I found on the old Citroen OC website and it worked for me. Good luck

What a mistake to make! I sold my old C5 SX 2003 and had had hardly any trouble. A windscreen washer pump failed and the air-con sensor on the fan control stopped working. Both were fairly easily fixed although the air-con fault had my regular garage LMC of Kingsley throw a wobbly and quote me a heart-stopping £350!!! (It actually cost about £55 for the part and about 15 minutes to replace) I have just bought a one year old C5 exclusive (It seems only the top of the range now has the hydractive suspension and I think it's one of the best things about the car and ideal for towing as it load-levels.) and I'm very pleased with it. My only complaint is the seatbelt audible warning which is very irritating when I'm driving (not on public roads) without my seat belt. The C5 is a great tow-car and although Citroen warn against fitting a flange type tow-bar because of the reversing sensors. I have one fitted by Towbar Express (with a dedicated wiring loom) and have experienced no problems. So, "new Volvo Owner" I hope you enjoy your acquisition but I think you would have liked the latest C5 more.

The truth is, I don't know. I can only tell you what the problem was with mine and how I fixed it. I must admit I was a bit concerned that I was possibly wasting my money on the replacement part as the dealer said they wouldn't take the part back as a return if it didn't work. Sometimes, if you can't do anything else, you have to take a chance. What does your local dealership say?

Hi, I had this problem. The symptoms were that on engine start the LCD fan symbols on the air-con would light up (actually go dark)but when I tried to use the fan they would go out and no fan! I think it's a common fault in the same component which can cause the fan to run full blast with no control. The item involved is a solid state unit which fits just to the left of where you would rest your clutch foot in the drivers footwell. You need to remove the stiff felt cover trim to expose the unit (which plugs into an air-con airway) remove two wiring loom plug connectors and remove the two screws holding the unit. You can then withdraw the unit. You'll recognise you have the right bit if it has a finned aluminium attachment. It's the same part in Citroen and peugeot so either dealer can supply it and mine cost me, a couple of months ago about £55. Best of luck with it. It's very awkward to access and re-fit.

What diesel additive? AND, aren't the services at 12000mile intervals?

C5 washers have packed up, leaving me peering through a smeary screen into low winter sun! Yeeuch!! Plenty of fluid. Fuse F14(underbonnet fuse box) checked OK. Any one know where the washer motor is or how to access it? I see the panel above the washer bottle is secured with star socketed fixings so, presumably, this is not intended to be easily accessed. Is there anything else I should have looked at? Any suggestions welcomed.

Further to the windscreen washer post I have to say before someone else does that I did check the washer fluid and topped up. The washers still didn't work.

'Twas a damp and gritty day with the low Winter sun searing my eyeballs and a hazy windscreen splatter reducing visibility to about 20% when I tried a blink of the windscreen washers. Oh my God!! I can't see a blxxdy thing!! The washer jet failed to inundate the screen and the windscreen splatter spread like a thick mist across my field of view, obscuring my vision entirely, as the wipers scraped backwards and forwards three times as programmed, but on the relatively dry screen. I missed the oncoming cars as I ricocheted off the road side grass verge and came to a halt undamaged but breathing heavily. How did we ever manage before windscreen washers? ]But , down to business. It wasn't the fuse.[/b A check on the underbonnet fuse box revealed that F14 (washers) fuse was unblown and intact. I checked all of the other fuses while I was there and no problems. Has anyone come across this before and knows the answer? I can't get to the washer bottle easily because it's under a panel secured by star headed screws that I don't have a tool for. Any suggestions (clean and friendly ) welcomed.

HI, Despite my initial scepticism I gave the door a firm pull from inside and then operated the latch. Hey Presto the door swung open - problem solved. I would have sworn that I'd tried everything, but obviously not! The lock has now been marinated in WD40 Thanks for your help.

Thanks, Myglaren and Chilie. I'll give your suggestions a try. I must admit my gut feeling is that it wont be the answer as I had tried quite a lot of pulling and pushing, although not specifically pushing "IN" when unlocking. If it works I'll let you know via this thread. Cheers

I've noticed a number of problems occurring with C5 rear doors but my driver's door has stuck. Ive tried cycling the central locking via the key fob and I can hear the appropriate noises going on. I've tried unlocking with the key - again, all the appropriate noises and lights. BUT, still the door wont open. I've even tried climbing through from the passenger side to open with the interior handle but no joy. I imagine that the mechanical actuation part of the mechanism has failed. I'm not sure it's possible to access the mechanism by removing the interior trim on the door with the door closed because the seat is in the way AND I don't know how to do it without causing unnecessary damage. There are a lot of C5's out there someone must have had this problem. Has anyone got the solution? ( BTW. I'm a bit fed up with clambering through from the passengers side; it's so undignified when you're trying to show a girl a good time!:-)) Any suggestions gratefully received.
