  1. Think he means "59" registration - i.e. second half of 2009.
  2. Also batteries don't like cold weather ! (Nor do I!)

    Thanks for the info.

I wonder what Jagal did? I also wonder whether TPMI is worth bothering with in view of the apparent corrosion problem and the cost of replacing the valves. I don't have them on my VTR but I very seldom need to put more air in the tyres. Does anyone remember the Citroen advert on TV where the driver drove his ID (?) - not sure of the model - between two lorries and one of his tyres blew out? It was to show that this particular model (with hydraulic suspension) remained stable on three wheels! Those were the days!
  5. Probably wouldn't pass the MOT though
  6. That's a very good idea. However, I'm not sure whether there's room for a jacket but I'll have a decko! (BTW I check my battery about every 6 months and, if necessary, top it up with distilled water. (It's usually quite easy to open the caps on each cell.)
  7. Recently I didn't move my C5 (2005) for 4 or 5 days and noticed that the voltage indicator was really down the negative side. The temp had rarely exceeded zero during those days and batteries don't like the cold! Luckily it started and now shows "normal". As long as you can open the door with a key it may be worth disconnecting the battery if the car's not going to be used for a few days, Like Paul H I believe the alarm has its own battery. My Xantia did.
  8. "I suppose it all goes back to the old Brittish Leyland problem, just hoping you dont buy a car that was built on a Friday afternoon. Lol." ...and not just a Friday afternoon! In 1985 I was offered a company car up to a certain value (I think £8K). At the time I was driving a company Austin Maxi. If I drove over about 60mph the doors bowed. It was good at aquaplaning too! Apart from that.... However, being British, I looked at a couple of Maestros and a Princess My wife got into the back of the Princess, closed the door and the handle came off. I had a test drive in a Maestro and was told not to drive over 30mph as it "didn't steer very well." It turned out that one of the suspension parts had been put on upside down. I bought a BX16 TRS!
  9. Not sure whether this will work with the C5 as the distance between the front wheels is different to the distance between the back wheels. Also I've had the Michelin Cross Climates fitted to the front wheels and it feels as though I'm on rails. Wonderful tyres. They have reinforced sidewalls but Michelin said that they are recommended by Citroen so... The ride is a little harder but now I'm used to it.
  10. Timing chains might stretch but are unlikely to break. If you need to change it it's best to change the tensioner as well. A kit costs about £100 (from mister-auto.co.uk).
  11. If you're seeing smoke and the wiring is getting hot it seems to me that there's a short circuit somewhere. I'm not familiar with the circuitry so I don't know what the resistor is for. Does it control the fan speed? Anyway it might be as well to check the resistance of the resistor and calculate the amps it's likely to be taking (V=I x R). If the 40 amp fuse blows it means that the unit is generating about 500 Watts so no wonder the wires get hot!
  12. V6Boy - do you mean the speedo doesn't show the vehicle's speed or just the mileage?
  13. Hi Paul - this is from the Government's website and it shows that, after the first year, tax for most cars will be £140. https//www.ved-reform-briefing-for-motor-industry(1).pd I find it strange that even most gas guzzlers will be charged this rate (although they'll be hammered for the first year). Of course, CO2 is a "greenhouse gas" which helps cause Global Warming - oh sorry, now we must say "Climate Change"! And most of the world has just signed up to reducing CO2 emmissions so I don't see the logic of this change. It's CFCs which were used in aerosols and cooling systems (Fridges, A/C etc.) which punched the holes in the Ozone layer. Apparently that's started to close again now.
  14. Thanks for that Paul. I reckon "not a lot of people know that!" I certainly didn't.
  15. ....but you can't get quicker than a QwikFit fitter etc. (I note they don't sing that song any more!!)
  16. The little beep might well have been caused by the hand brake sticking slightly. I've had it when hill starting and I'm a bit slow to release the H/B lever completely as the car moves forward.
  17. I've noticed this on my C5 (2005) but, as it lasts very few seconds, I've put it down to one of those Citroen foibles. (Had to change my battery at 106Kmiles - and 10 years old - as a cell died, but still get this occasionally with the new one.)
  18. Probably a daft question but you have checked the fuel filter?
  19. Does the cruise control apply the brakes if, say, going down hill? (It certainly doesn't on my Facelift.)
  20. Sorry Paul. I was busy checking dims. in the middle of my post when you posted! Also mileage wear depends on speed and driving technique.
  21. Could still be the tracking as the distance between the centres of the front wheels (1528mm) is different to the rear wheels (1495mm). I took my C5 into have the track checked and the operator tried to make the tracking parallel (until I explained this to him!). Also incorrect tyre pressures can cause rapid wear. (On delivery (new) I thought the suspension was rather hard compared to my Xantia. Then I found I had about 46 Lbs/sq.in (3.3Bars) instead of 33lbs/sq.in (2.3Bars)!)
  22. ......and don't forget that as far as Insurers are concerned, changing the wheels might be a modification........!
  23. I changed my 1.6HDi's Timing Belt + tensioners, Water Pump and Aux belt at about 96K miles with a service for £490 if that's of interest.
  24. Or a couple of litres of Warm (not Hot) water.
  25. According to the 2008+ C5 sales brochure, ISO fix points are available for the two outer rear seats only (as well as the front passenger seat on VTR+ and Exclusive). I don't think the earlier C5s have ISOfix points.
