Temperature Fault, Fan Running At Full Tilt.
Porsche430 replied to frajo287's topic in C3 - Technical
This is a common fault and Citroen are aware of this and there is a fix but it can only be carried out by a Citroen dealership. I'm assume this is a petrol 1.6? If so, this involves placing a new coolant temp sensor through one of the coolant bleed screws which, through some unplugging and plugging in, it bypasses the faulty coolant temp sensor. This fault would be confirmed with a diagnostic check and observing the fault codes logged. -
Very welcome to the forum. Sadly, the C5 sidelight bulbs are what they are.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear of your collision. On the ZX, the indicator and main headlight unit are separate units. I'm assuming your vehicle is in the UK and right hand drive? Here is the headlight cluster ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/181658066242?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108 Here is the indicator ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/221668734598?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108 ***I assume no responsibility for the quality of these items!***

Also, turbo's on Citroen units usually go due to starvation of oil. Ensure the vehicle has sufficient oil and clean oil.
-
I couldn't say I have ever heard of a turbo "screeching". Have you considered the auxiliary belt? In order to eliminate this, remove this belt and run the vehicle for a very short period of time. This will eliminate all parts connected to this belt if noise goes away. Be aware, you can only run the vehicle for a very short period of time as you will not have the alternator charging the battery. If there is any issue with a turbo making excessive noise, the only solution is to replace it.
-
How to fix? Confirm where the leak is coming from 100% and replace. Always good to replace slightly more that is needed, so do seals and fuel return lines.
-
If you have an automatic or piloted manual gearbox, it will "powerlatch" after the ignition has been switched off for about 30 seconds.
-
Disconnecting a battery at the "wrong" time has the potential to corrupt ECU data. Have I ever actually seen this happen on any vehicle? No. But they say it can!
-
By the way, make sure your 1.6 HDi is piping hot before draining oil or it's bye bye turbo.

Car Choice Dilemma, Advice Needed
Porsche430 replied to citroenfan's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
I don't have kids but I had bother when allowing my wife to drive one of my cars. I drive a Citroen C4 Coupe at the moment and the insurance is in my name, with me as the main and only driver. However, I also have a Peugeot 206 CC under my care which I never use but had the same kind of insurance. Within the last 6 months or so, my wife was needing a car more so I fixed up the 206 to make it safe and put her on as a named driver. However, she got two speeding tickets from officers (not cameras) since then and the insurance got wind of this and then assumed she was the main driver and cancelled the policy unless I could prove otherwise. I couldn't and she had to be come main driver and I took my name off completely. It is now very, very expensive. This insurance is with Kwik Fit, wouldn't recommend. Looking to change when I get my new C4 Cactus and when policy on 206 expires in 1 year from now. -

To my understanding, the main driver must have ownership and insurance in their name? -
I'm an technician and MoT tester and an engine management light would not fail an MoT test. An MoT values are car for anything above scrap. I would put as an advisory however.

Car Choice Dilemma, Advice Needed
Porsche430 replied to citroenfan's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Welcome to the forum. Looks like purchasing your first car is appearing quite stressful! Are you looking for a brand new car or used car? Citroen's are an excellent start for any new driver as it is a sensible, safe choice with a range of vehicles useful to everyone and their pockets. The C3 and DS3 drive much the same, only difference is the appearance. For a family choice, the C3 is the better of the two. My recommendation would be the new C3 1.2 PureDrive engine, depending on your driving needs. The C4 is what it is and is very good at what it does. Best with the 1.6 DV6 diesel engine. Very capable car. Why not have a look at the C4 Cactus when you are at the dealer? Fantastic family car with a big boot. I would advise driving before buying though as visibility can be an issue at the rear. I have bought a C4 Cactus myself from the garage I used to work at as a mechanic. -
New C5 Owner - Driving And Ride Characteristics And Switches
Porsche430 replied to lrochfort's topic in C5 - Technical
Here goes - 1 - I'm not 100% sure if it is fly by wire or not. It's either a sticky pedal or sticky throttle body. Each easy to inspect. 2 - Fix number one and check again. 3 - They have firmed up over the years to make sure they don't just float about the road like the Citroen's of old. I take it you have "hydro pneumatic" suspension? 4 - Changed the trip computer read out. The button is still present regardless of if the car has it fitted or not. 5 - Only operated as Paul H says. If still not working, usually a new switch required. -
How Many 1.6I Stop/start Sensodrives Are There

I hear you there! False economy I think it is called. :) -
If you have a canister oil filter strap, you can use that if you get it lined up right.

Parking Sensors Faulty After Car Wash
Porsche430 replied to Drummer1's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Another question! Does your rear wiper activate when you place into reverse if the front wipers are on? I'm thinking your reverse switch may be faulty... but if reverse lights work would suggest it's okay. Maybe also a bad earth somewhere but I don't have any wiring diagrams for C5's. -
Solid Flywheel Conversion For 2008 C5 Tourer?
Porsche430 replied to Tucker9037's topic in C5 - Technical
A clutch should cure the shudder, but I generally advise against changing DMF to solid flywheels. As Coastline Taxi's said, if it ain't broke don't fix it. It is hard to diagnose a worn DMF unless it is knocking when idling or when the gearbox and clutch is removed, feel for play in the dampers inside the DMF by turning the flywheel back and forth by hand. The way I see it, is Citroen wanted a solid flywheel for the car, they'd of put on in it. DMF's are getting slowly removed from new cars anyway... YAY! -
How Many 1.6I Stop/start Sensodrives Are There
Porsche430 replied to charentejohn's topic in C3 - General
Personally, I think it has more to do with emission regulations and reducing road tax costs for customers. The fuel savings are very minimal at best from what I have experienced. Recently, I drove a brand new C1 with a 1.2 petrol engine with S&S. I think it is unnecessary. -
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the recent purchase of your ZX. Was an interesting car and not a bad car. Have a look at this to valuate your car if you are in the UK - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-valuation This will compare your vehicle to others on the market but doesn't take into account the condition. Generally, modern Citroen's do not hold their value to well.
