Sounds like it could be an earthing fault somewhere, could be a process of elimination to find out where the fault is. If you've got a multimeter that would help. Good luck, I hope someone else here can be more specific. ;)

Xantia sx Td estate 1999. This car has an annoying whining diff in 3rd and 4th at speeds of 40 -50mph. Has anyone else experienced this fault and can it be fixed easily? will it develop into catostrophic fialure or shall I just put up with it? Any help/advise appreciated alexis
