Is anyone experiencing problems with their C4 rear suspension performance? I have a 1.4 SX and the ride is extremey harsh and noisy over bumps, especially at low speed. Passengers in the back find the ride very uncomfortable. Citroen UK have been of little help so far.

Mines not noisy but it's fairly harsh over bumps but not really a problem not had any complaints from passengers anyways. over speedbumps etc it feels fine barely feel them to be honest. but i think the suspension on the C4 is fairly stiff anyways as standard but does help in cornering i found where for the kind of car it is it keeps bodyroll down a fair bit.

My 1.6hdi (92) SX Hatchback (Dec 2004) had the rear shock absorbers replaced at about 10k by my dealer, the technician said there was something inside at the top that tightens itself which caused it, Citroen have now changed supplier / upgraded the rear shocks mine is definately better but certain potholes does cause that back end knock.

I have also noticed a knock on the front, mainly if pulling away lively from traffic lights.

The shocks on mine don;t seem to have too much travel if going over a large bump the front seems to knock and when fully loaded with passengers the car cannot handle bumps as well

I have a VT Coupe and the suspension was a pleasure until I upgrated to Spax with a 30mm drop - now the suspension is extremely hard and very bumpy, although the cornering ability is much improved. I am currently running on standard Citroen steelies...lol you should have felt the ride quality with my 18" on 215/35 tyres...it felt like I was driving on square wheels lol! - One of those alloys actually split due to the pressure they were put under!

Thanks for the replies, I'm wondering if it's a particular problem with this model of car (maybe the alloy wheels on the 1.4 SX can't cope) and if mine's a particularly bad example. It couldn't be that some models have a more substantial suspension could it? I had new shock absorbers fitted for a continual groaning noise (not from the bumped-about rear passengers) but this hasn't improved the ride. The rear is definitely 'flat' and the passenger side rear seems to bang particularly over unavoidable ruts and bumps. Cornerning and hitting a bump is very unpleasant. The car has been test driven by the local dealer and they and Citroen UK maintain that the 'peformance is characteristic of the model range'. I find this really hard to believe and have now found some commments about the suspension in some road tests. I'm thinking of getting some sort of independent road test or assessment to prove it's not just me. I think I'll just have to get rid of it, which is a shame because otherwise it's been a reasonable car (although the rear brakes do squeal when reversing - I must get that fixed next time its in the garage and they're looking at the suspension again).
