citroeneddie Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Kfk Following a 37500 mile service on my C5 1.6Hdi estate by a Peugeot Authorised Repairer, economy mode appears as soon as I get in the car. My Citroen dealer had tried on two different occasions with internet downloads etc to reset Economy to 30 mins without success and has never known this problem before.Their Technician will be going to his monthly meeting in July with Citroen to discuss. Can you shed any light on this problem if you have come across before? Thanks Eddie Quote
kfk Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 1: when you start the car does economy mode dissapear off the dash? 2: if the vehicle has been on a run and you turn the vehicle off for 5 minutes does economy mode appear on the display? 3: Is it just a case that if you leave the vehicle for longer than 30 minutes economy mode appears on the display. 4: have you had any electrical components fitted to the vehicle, towbar, radio/cd.......is anything left in any of the 12v power sockets with the ignition off.....mobile phone, laptop power supply? As far as i know the duration of economy mode cant be adjusted on C5 II ......economy mode is activated when the BSI detects a current drain for a period of time without the battery recieving a charge. citroeneddie Posted June 16, 2006 Author Posted June 16, 2006 Kfk 1.Yes , when I start the car everything is fine and economy mode disappears. 2.Once the car has been on a run and I switch the engine off, then economy mode does not appear straight away. 3.Yes, if I leave for a longer period(not sure if it is but maybe 30 mins) then economy appears straight away. 4. I have a tom tom charger permanently connected to my lighter socket, but this has been insitu since November last year without any problems before the service in May. Could this be the answer, but it is strange it hasn't happened until recently? I have had a CD changer fitted to under my seat, but that was 12 months ago by my Citroen dealer as an approved accessory. Thanks for your knowledge and attention. Eddie Quote
kfk Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 1: Thats good it should do, its obviously seeing an increase of battery voltage on starting. 2: Thats Good 3: Im assuming from this statement that your locking the vehicle and returning after 30 minutes, thew dash has the message economy mode on it. 4: Try to make sure any additional equipment is unplugged when leaving the vehicle (the TOM Tom), Multiplayer shouldnt be a problem. if you have anything plugged into the vehicle that can cause a power drain it will cause the BSI not to 'go to sleep', because of this after 30 minutes of power drain without the engine running it will go into economy mode. Obviously there are other things that can cause these problems, for instance interior light staying on, boot lights and glovebox lights, sunvisor illumination (where fitted)...............Have knowd a door lock to go faulty in the past causing this type of problem, also water in the wiring connector of a towbar, and power invertors left plugged in. Just out of interest.......did your citroen dealer experience the problem, or say no fault found.......did you take the tom tom out when you left the car with them? Quote
citroeneddie Posted June 16, 2006 Author Posted June 16, 2006 Kfk 3.As I get in and out of the car a lot during the day economy mode only appears if I have left the car for a while ,possibly half an hour .(eg it does not come on when I fill up, lock and return to the car in a short space of time)4. I have unplugged the tom tom lead for the weekend and will monitor it. Interesting point about other sources that may cause power to drain, which may be like a needle in a haystack, but I will put the point to my Dealer. Yes the dealer did expreience the fault but the tom tom was left in during the time in the garage. Thanks PS I'm off to the Citroen organised track day in Warwick tomorrow - have you tried racing a C8 three laps around a race track? Good day out if last year was anything to go by :D Quote
citroeneddie Posted June 16, 2006 Author Posted June 16, 2006 Kfk It's not the tom tom charger,I took it out and economy still came up. However, at my last service, they repaced my rear screen as it was stuck shut. I know that this was replaced due to earthing failure in the old one. Could the new one be draining the system somewhere? Thanks Eddie Quote
kfk Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 The tailgate Glass..... i think it has a pin switch, does this operate a boot light?.......when you open the glass and look down at the wiper motor fitted to the 'metal' part of the tailgate....is there a plastic cover it, is it fitted correctly?.....is there a push switch in the glass part that makes contact with the plastic cover? I ask cos something in the back of my mind tells me i had problems with a plastic trim that surrounds the latch/wiper mechanism .......either way, its caused you to think and come up with a possible point in time that something hasd been repaired and the fault started.......its worth mentioning when you take your car back in. Of course theresa always the possibility that the wires to the glass have been squashed when reassembling the stop lamp spoiler. Quote
citroeneddie Posted June 16, 2006 Author Posted June 16, 2006 Kfk Can't see anything untoward, but like you I think it's too much of a coincidence. Have printed correspondence and will see dealer next week. As usual, your knowledge and expertise has been top drawer. Regards Eddie Quote
citroeneddie Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Kfk C5 went in yesterday and technician worked on it for three hours including rear windscreen refitting and also disconnected radio without success. However, later on in the day it is now working okay hurrah :o I think it was something to do with the radio. Apparently there has only been two other cases similar to mine on a Mk 2 C5, both in Germany. Alls well that ends well, worth looking at radio if you come across the situation again.
