Maiku64 Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I have a C5 LX 1749 cc (2001) While driving home late last night, I had to over take up hill. As I got to 50 mph it suddenly started to vibrate violently and become very sluggish on acceleration.Downhill would accelerate up to 60 mph, but uphill struggled. With the window open I could hear a very rough engine noise, reminiscent of old single cylinder motorcycles. This sounds like a misfire to me. Maybe only firing on one cylinder? As this happened under stress, is it more likely to be mechanical? I would be grateful for any ideas Quote
mhedwig Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 i asume its petrol check plugs and leads and check coil is firing on all cylinders Quote
paul.h Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Other things include any air leaks, disconnected piping, damaged/softened piping, loose electrical connectors, engine temperature measurement. Quote
coastline taxis Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 coil pack or airflow meter but either way you need to get it plugged in before you can sort this problem out Quote
Maiku64 Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 Thank you Unfortunately it is a holiday weekend and so I will have to just use my eyes for todayHopefully something obvious. Otherwise I will have to wait... Thanks again for the answers, gives my eyes direction. Quote
Maiku64 Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 OK found out more No compression in #2 cylinder and hardly any in #3 Mechanic says it is terminal Thanks for your replies Quote
paul.h Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 May just be head gasket failure between the 2 cylinders and no other damage. Eurocarparts website shows a complete head gasket set at £165.60 but that seems expensive. The repair cost depends on whether you are able to do the work yourself, if not probably a few £100. Quote
