seefive Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Had a missed call and a letter today from supplying dealer telling me my May 13 registered C5 2.0hdi is due a service Maint schedule says 1 year or 20k , Car has done 8kAre they trying it on? Just a bit concerned about warranty. They offered a collection and delivery service, which is interesting as they are 200+ miles from my home, to which they sent the letter. Quote
JM53 BEL Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 First service is usually about 3500 on brand new cars. But the 20k or 1 year is just a guide, most of my cars were serviced every 6000mls when i worked local but as i can achieve 6000mls pretty fast in my new job i am sticking to 12500mls you can service your car if and when you like but i wouldnt let it go past 20k mls at most as your oil and filtets will be past there best, yearly service is pretty normal, advice i have been given from members on here is reguler servicing and not to go the 20k interval as the turbos get choked and blow, so i would recommend every 12-13k mls for a service! As this is a first service i would get it in and done as the first service is always earlier than the rest, i think its to clean out an debris that may be in engine when built to remove the risk of damage and also new engines are tight so the oil may burn quicker (go black) and the fresh oil just lubricates better. So i would say they are not trying to bump you! You will see in your service book there will be a 1st service stamp placement, it may tell you there the recommended interval for 1st service, i hope this helps and sorry for the long answer but its good advice, definately dont go to 20k between services Quote
paul.h Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 If you look in the Maintenance and Warranty Guide it might have a post delivery inspection at 1000 to 1500 miles - there is one in our 2007 C5 book but in our 2011 C4 book this does not appear so maybe these are no longer required. Services are then 2 years or 20k miles or if severe, 1 year or 12k miles. I would question it, maybe their records are not correct (which could impact on the warranty) and you could also check at any Citroen dealer since the records will be on the Citroen system. On the delivery service, maybe whoever sent the letter does not realise you are 200 miles away, geography might not be part of the national curriculum now. Plus if it was honoured, you would end up with an extra 400 miles on your car and the next service due, an empty fuel tank and a 2 hour service would take 3 days. Your car may also have been thrashed for 400 miles. Quote
JM53 BEL Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Thanks paul wasnt sure on how many mls it was till first setvice but i knew it wasnt a lot. Quote
qman3428 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I bought my car with 16000 on the clock, the book showed it had not been serviced so I contacted my local main dealer who advised 20K. I had it serviced by an indy at 20 k and have done subsequent services myself every 20k. The car now has 112k on the clock, runs well and has no engine issues. These days oil is better (use the correct grade) filters are better and engines are built to finer tolerances, so the old requirements are no longer applicable. That said those with a 1600 should reduce there service intervals if they want the turbo to last Quote
seefive Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Thanks all. This was an error by the garage, so will wait until 1 year ( which will be next May - probably about 14/15k by then), and use my local main dealer, whom I've known for 8 years now. I would never buy from them, as they want list price for everything! The best bargains are to be had up North, Car is running fine with no problems. Service book is completed correctly in the initial delivery section, and there is no "first service" due before 20k/1 year regime cuts in. Quote
Roger W Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 The Citroen recommended service intervals for the C5 diesel changed in July 2013 from 2 years/20,000 to 1 year/12,500. I was nearly caught out as I didn't look at the handbook and the service indicator on the dash was set for 20,000! Having said that I have always had a 1 year oil change and check-over as 2 years and 20,000 was, in my view, far too long. I suspect the higher performance of the latest Diesels need a bit more looking after! There is no early 'first service' listed. Quote

qman3428 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Anyone know if a lexia can be used to change the service interval? Quote

paul.h Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Just had another look in the Maintenance guides that came with our 2007 C5 and 2011 C4 and they both give 12500 miles or 2 years for the 1.6 hdi - I always thought the 1.6 hdi was 12500 miles or 1 year, so have had our C4 serviced each year. It still would not have gone 2 years though before reaching 12500 miles. Severe service intervals for this engine are 10000 miles or 1 year. Most (but not all, depends on the car) other engines are 20000 miles or 2 years. They also define severe which includes not using approved lubricants and repeated short journeys (engine cold). The list of recommended oils (does not say approved) are all Total ones - so if you do not use these does that mean the severe intervals should be used ? And do dealers use Total oils - I thought my dealer was using Mobil ? Quote
paul.h Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Just checked the intervals on C3/4/5 and it looks as if all engines from 7/2012 are 1 year intervals. Is this some EU initiative or maybe a need for euro 6 engines to keep them in good fettle so emissions are low ? Or maybe Citroen trying to improve their income. Quote
seefive Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 The dealer finally backed down and I got an apologetic email form the service manager - after a total of 7 phone calls/texts etc. I was on the brink of suing them for nuisance! Lookers Preston - not too well organised - selling Hyundai and Citroen in the same showroom, and don't know much about either brand. To be fair I did get a very good deal on the car though Quote
