Hi guys

I've just got myself a lovely little low mileage 2003 C3 but it didn't come with the handbook so I'm not completely sure about the dashboard display yet.

At the moment, under the speed indicator it says "max miles" and then a number (which seems to be alternating between 46, 43, 34 and 27.) I think it appeared around the time the fuel level dropped to the last bar and the light came on so is this telling me roughly how many miles I can do on the petrol left in the tank?

Thanks for the help :)

For info, you have said the car is a 2003 C3 desire, but not given the engine size and whether diesel or petrol.

I would add some fuel to the tank before going much further so you do not run out and if it is a diesel this will also prevent possible damage to the fuel pump.

If your car has a trip computer (our 2003 sx 1.4 petrol did not have one), then pushing the button on the end of the wiper stalk will change the display between average mpg, current mpg at your current driving style, miles remaining to running out of fuel at the current mpg/driving style. Holding the button in will reset the trip computer. One bar of the fuel gauge is about 7 litres when the bar above has just gone out (obviously 0 litres just before it goes out) and there will also be a low level light that comes on when possibly there is about 1½ litres left. Depending on how you drive, if a 1.4 petrol, you should get about 45 mpg or 10 miles per litre.

Whoops, sorry! It's a 1.4 Desire, petrol.

Found the handbook! You were right, it was hiding in the drawer under the seat. I tried pushing the button on the end of the wiper stalk earlier but it didn't seem to do anything.

If you are holding it in when the display is showing you your current mpg, it won't work. Push it in once so it shows you your average mpg, and then, hold it in for 4 seconds
