Ciaran2903 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006  I was coming back up from brighton yesterday (saturday) around 1 o'clock in the afternoon, and i was having a nice sedate drive up, on the way back from good news (doctor says that i dont need him anymore, and i have recovered MUCH faster than expected! :D ) and on the way to my old mates from cranliegh. The M23 was running smooth, and then suddenly, no traffic, i had no sense of speed what-so-ever, and saw a police car on the side of the motorway with a good old speed gun (on a tripod)! looked at the speedo: 95mph!!!! :o WHAT THE HELLL!!!! i never go that fast!!!!! <_< it felt like 75-80! :( I felt like the biggest chump on the earth! no wonder all the traffic had suddenly gone, they all saw the police car and i didnt! :( I thought, balls i am going to get pulled over up ahead by another police car! :( but didn't, then assumed i was in the clear. Looked on the web last night, found out that all they do is record the plate and send you your punishment. :( Why o why dont i use the speed limiter! I had no sense of speed and had the biggest shock of my life when i saw the speedo!  I am such an idiot! from now on, my speed limiter will be over-worked!The thing that annoys me is that i never speed, especially on the motorway!! anyone recall a post, "the best thing to do is not to speed at all :P " posted by me! That IS my outlook! and has always been like that!!! :( Quote
Mike5483 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 95MPH... Lucky Boy. You were about 5MPH away from loosing your licence!!! Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted September 24, 2006 Author Posted September 24, 2006 I know! i thought that it would feel alot faster than that! I had the windows up and was listening to music, not that loud. but still thought that i would feel faster! well now i know it doesn't and i should use all the resourses that i am given (i.e. speed limiter!) <_< Quote
C4VTS Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Don't new drivers have to retake the test if they get 6 points ? I think that is correct. Let's hope they offer you a 3 point £60 Conditional offer.Wait 14 days to get nasty letter in the post. The C4 is very easy to drive fast without any sense of speed, as it handles well and is very quiet. Quote
welshys90 Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 after 6 points you get ur liscense taken off u (within the first 2 years of havin it) and then u have 2 wait 6 months i think it is before you can resit however i know someone thats 15 and has 6 points on his liscense (stole his dads car and got caught speeding, 3 points for each) and one he turns 17 he has 2 wait 2 years before he can even start to take lessons Quote

At least i am not the only one! anyone else found that? just it is good to know that i am not the only one! I feel like the biggest idiot!! <_< Quote
Mat Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 (edited) Wait 14 days to get nasty letter in the post. I heard a rumour that the requirement for the police to get the NIP to you within 14 days has been dropped. Not sure if its actually the case. If it is, the police can send you a speeding ticket months or even years after you sped. EDIT> I can't find any evidence. Speedtrap Bible and others all still claim the 14 day NIP rule. xavtia Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 for 1st offence isnt there an option to take a driver awareness course instead of the points, might be worth a shot you have to pay for the course and be lectured on the dangers of driving fast but you avoid the points. I've noticed that the i seem to go faster than i did in my Xsara so have started using the speed limiter, but seem to get overtaken by those numpties that think the speed limits dont apply to them. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted September 24, 2006 Author Posted September 24, 2006 I am going to use the speed limiter endlessly from now on!!! I was such a retard not to have used it before!! <_< Hopefully i can get over it with out worring myself silly!! I have already learnt my lesson (as you can probably tell!!) that it is east to speed in my car and i need to do something about it! wozza Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Unlucky mate. However this site may be useful to you. http://www.pepipoo.com/ Sure if you post on the forums there some people might be able to try and help you. Also things showing how they had to have thigns set out etc. And gives you some advice on things you should / should not do when you get pulled etc. Quote
toblerone Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Just to clarify, speed awareness courses are offered at the police forces/camera partnerships discretion and normally only to lower infringments eg 34 in a 30 zone etc. So you might get one or you might just be offered a fixed penalty endorsment. Quote
C4VTS Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 One reason I went for the C4 was because of the speed limiter and cruise control. Where I know there are cameras, then I use these devices. It's normally safe to go 10% over the limit without risking a fine/points. Quote
LeoTheHamster Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 95? Odds are you're looking at 6 points, possibly a court appearance. I was offered one of those course things for doing 36 in a 30 - I was told if I was doing 35 nothing would have happened, and at 37 it would have been auto 3 points + £60. 95 in a 70 is a big leap compared, I wouldn't expect leniancy if I were you Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 A work colleague just got caught on the Gatso at the bottom of the M11, he was doing 95mph in a 50mph. After 3 months waiting he had a court hearing where the judge gave him 6 points and a £60 fine. He was pretty chuffed. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted September 24, 2006 Author Posted September 24, 2006 I have looked around (as you could imagine) and it seems that for upto 90 it is 3 points then upto 100 it is 4-5 points then up from there it is 6 points and a ban. Bugger me! looking at a this your colleague had horseshoes up his arse!! <_< He was lucky not to get a very hefty fine and a ban!!! Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Yup, especially since he has 3 points already. I think it went in his favour that he was doing it at 2.30am on his way back from Stansted and there would have been very little other traffic. He had only had his RX8 for a few months so didn't fancy a ban. I have since sold him my Snooper as he can't afford to get done again. Quote
C4VTS Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 I have 3 points for 95 on a dual carriageway. (from my Audi A4) I saw the orange van on a bridge but just thought it was RAC or some builder, then when I got closer i could read that it was a so called safety camera van  Got the letter in the post that said i could just take the 3 points and £60 and walk away so accepted, as I knew that I had been going a little faster than that! It's just a tax on the motorist, and nothing to do with safety. <_< Quote
welshys90 Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Z3M, what is it the snooper does? Quote
wozza Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Uses GPS to detect speeds cameras and tell you how fast you shoudl be going for each camera. Can be updated via the internet. There also completely legal and the police actually endorse there use. Want one myself. Although i have got in the habit of driving slower still think there useful for when your in areas you dont know. Quote

welshys90 Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 well i dont plan on takin my car abroad however one over here would be useful but come on guys! we dont drive over the speed limit anyway thats just our safety precaution :P  Quote
ham's c4vts Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 just a note our speedos are spot on for speed. you can also get downloads for sat navs which tell you where cameras are to use as an aid Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I wouldn't solely rely on GPS Speed Scamera Detectors as mine has not always been aware of scameras which have been in place for a long time. The majority it will flag up, including Gatso, Truvelo, Specs and mine also had a laser detector and jammer. The Laser detector is all well and good in theory but by the time the detector has detected, the policeman has already obtained your speed, unless of course you have jammed it (the latter is not advisable as jamming is illegal) Quote
wozza Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Thats why people wied up and had a jammer that only jams the first time but lets it get it the 2nd time to give you enough warning as such. Quote
