hertsnminds Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Just been reading about the MKII BMW/Mini it says...The old Chrysler-sourced Brazilian-built engines have been replaced by Peugeot-Citroen-BMW-developed British-built 1.6-litre engines, with a turbocharger featuring on the Cooper S.Source:http://www.channel4.com/4car/rt/mini/cooper+s/1082/2 Does this mean you will soon be paying Citroen prices for BMW engines and can we look at a BMW and think they have the same engine as a Citroen. wozza Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Known about this for a while. Next model C4 VTS is apparently going to have the same 1.6 Turbo lump putting out around 170 - 200bhp. Idea is gives better fuel economy and better performance due to the lighter car. Quote
citroeneddie Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I know that Citroen diesels are in Jaguars due to the PSA/Ford agreement. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 ones already in the pug 207 gt detuned though Quote
iannez Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 am sure volvo are using the diesel engines as well. a lot cheaper than developing there own i suppose. Quote
wozza Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Yup. Then again a lot of companies share engines chassis etc. Quote
ging32 Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I really hope the VTS gets the 190bhp unit as that will be some nice engine. The VTR+ could do with the same 150bhp unit as in the 207 GT. Apparently BMW are building the engines for their cars ie the MINI in UK at Hams Hall and PSA are building them in France for the Peugeot and Citroen cars. Quote
Stuey Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 the next gen VTS is getting the supercharged 1.6 that is in the Mini in 2007 according to the rumour mill...im with you on the GT engine though mate. A group of us went to MPH car show last sunday and we saw the C4 Picasso in the metal and it was very impressive (i thought so anyway) and it is a nice indicator as to what the new C4 will look like... wozza Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Next mini engine is Turbocharged now rather than Supercharged. But would like to see a 150bhp engine or so in a VTR+ few little changes could probably get it nearer the 200bhp mark. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Apparently BMW are building the engines for their cars ie the MINI in UK at Hams Hall i can assure you that i live in a detatched house :P Quote
Stuey Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Next mini engine is Turbocharged now rather than Supercharged. I know what I meant, just cus you lot cant read my mind... Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I know that Citroen diesels are in Jaguars due to the PSA/Ford agreement. I remember back in the early 2000's Auto Expressed published a "world atlas" of all the car markers and the connections between companies in and around the world. As you can imagine it turned out to be quite a spiders web of relationships! E.g. Ford used PSA diesels as identified, but also Yamaha also developed the petrol 1.6 zetec used in Fords.... the relationships are complex and intermingled often associated with companies you wouldnt associate with cars. TonyG Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I have driven a new MINI Cooper S turbo and will say its bloody quick. Quote
lab44 Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Is a nice engine - drove it in the 207 yesterday. Pity the rest of the car was rubbish :D Quote
