ashtonw25 Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Hello, Im looking for a bit of advice. My car is a C3 II 2010 model 1.4 hdi with 82,000 on the clock. Yesterday I started up the car, everything fine but a message appeared 'Anti Pollution Faulty' and the light came on the dash.I got home and looked at the error codes, it came up with P1162 and P1351. I cleared the codes of the ecu.I started the car a few times throughout the day all with the coolant over 20 degrees, nothing wrong.I started the car this morning with the coolant at 13 degrees and the error code P1351 came back on the ecu. If anybody has any thoughts/previous experience please let me know. Many thanks Will Quote
ashtonw25 Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 At the minute i'm thinking a problem with one or more of the glow plugs. Does that sound reasonable? And because it doesn't have a dpf is not too urgent that I see it it? Quote
paul.h Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 From a search: P1162 may relate to the egr valve not working so it may need cleaning or replacing but first check any actuator hoses to it in case there is a split or damage or if electrically operated check the connector and wiring. This is likely to be the fault that brought up the anti pollution message (which just means there is a fault that could affect the exhaust emissions and does not necessarily refer to a dpf unless there was a fault with it) and the engine management light. P1351 may relate to the glow plugs but if your car is starting ok you can probably leave this for now. What makes you think your car does not have a dpf ? According to a sales brochure for 2010 all the C3 diesels have a dpf system. Quote
ashtonw25 Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 Thanks for the reply. For getting to the egr valve would you say its best to take the air box off? And if the egr does want to start giving trouble would you recommend getting it blanked off? My manual says that it doesn't. From what I gather there wasn't many 1.4's that came without it as it became mandatory shortly after the release, however mine was an early model. Quite pleased about it though because from what I read they can be quite expensive if not looked after! Quote
paul.h Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 You must have the DV4TD or DV4TED engine and not the DV4C which has a dpf. A quick look at the car will confirm the lack of a dpf:If you look at the inside of the exhaust tail pipe, if it is covered in soot your car probably does not have a dpf since all the cars we've had with a dpf were clean metal. If you look at the exhaust down pipe if there is a dpf it will be fitted next to the catalyst and have pressure sensor pipes connected to it. Citroen's procedures say to remove the air box to allow access to the egr valve. Then remove the egr pipe and then the valve. A new metal valve gasket is needed and also the collar holding the pipe to the valve and an O-ring seal where the pipe joins the other end. The valve bolts are 20 Nm and the pipe bolts 5 Nm. To remove the air filter box, remove the filter cover, the filter, 2 bolts holding the driver's side (RHD) engine mounting to the wing, pull the engine towards the front, remove the bolt and then air pressure sensor from the box, unplug the air flow meter connector, remove the 2 bolts holding the box to the engine and the collar holding it to the turbo, the box should now be free to remove and a sensor at the back will need disconnecting. The egr valve may be part no. 1618PF (check this using your VIN) and if it does not clean up or there is not a fault with the wiring or electrical connector, a new one from Citroen is about £170 from citroencarparts.net, £153.99 at eurocarparts. Somebody else may have experience of blanking plates and comment if you want to try one. Quote
ashtonw25 Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 Thanks for the detailed reply, very helpful. I'm going to France next week so i'll try and get it cleaned for then.Done about 150 miles today and the pollution error hasn't come back on - also averaging 68.8 mpg so i'm hoping it might've been a one off - still going to give it a clean though. I know on fiestas to get access to the back of the engine you just remove the windscreen cowl and windscreen wipers etc. Not sure if its possible on mine i'll have to have a look, it might be easier than removing the air box. I'll let you know how I get on and if I have time i'll try and take pictures and do a guide. Quote
ashtonw25 Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 Had a bit of a fiddle with this today. You can remove the air box without moving the engine, just take off the oil filler cap and be careful not to snag any fuel lines.Realistically the diesel filter needs to come off too so it would be worth replacing it if it's due.The valve itself its still not that accessible but I suppose if you have a citroen you'll be used to having to work blind! Also make sure you plug all the sensors back in or you will have an array of error codes!! Bluebird16 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Hi NOT IF this will helpI have a 2009 1.6 HDi exclusive Cit 3Just a thought I FILLED my car with diesel 99p litre to the Brim After 25 miles stopped and when I restarted emission management light came on Drove over 37 miles for 5 minutes ( Haynes book ) when I stopped for about an hour restarted all OkI'm wondering if you've done the same by overfilling the tank ? Is this Possible Regards Quote
paul.h Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 When the engine management light comes on a fault code and freeze frame data is stored. So if you have access to a fault code reader you can plug it in, read the code and data and see what the car thinks was wrong, otherwise it is just a guess and could be wrong. If it happens again do not start replacing any parts without reading the fault codes since you could spend a lot of money replacing parts until you find the faulty one. Quote
