Mainframe Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 hi all, im Kieran. 22 and from sydney australia. basically i bought my first ever car at the start of this year (a new toyota yaris auto) and while its a nice little car, ive decided i want to learn to drive manual as i use the engine braking/ 3-2-L gears in the auto nonstop and im pretty technically minded so i think i will get the hang of a manual and enjoy the extra control. im contemplating trading in my yaris next year and getting a Citroen C4 coupe 1.6 petrol manual with the full glass panoramic roof. citroens are pretty rare here in aus, but all the people at my work loves them, my boss got a new c4 saloon/hatchback this year and loves it. just thought i would say hi and that im here to learn about the car and find out about any consistant problems people have been having to try and help me make a decision. my 1.5 yaris is zippy but i find it runs out of guts if i have 2 or more passengers or on a hot day, i know the c4 is only a 1.6 so its not much of a performance gain if any - but im guessing the manual transmission will help with sluggishness. my main concern with it is that it wont be zippy or powerful enough, and the 2.0 coupe (we only have two choices for the coupe here. 1.6 and 2.0 - both manual) is double the price and out of my price range by far. basically just any information or guidence would be appreciated. so yes, thanks and ill look forward to poking around the forum and learning a bit  Quote
Rich_Eason Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Hi Kieran welcome to the forum. I am sure there are people here who will happy to advise you on the pros and cons of all the questions you have so ask away! When you mention the 1.6 do you mean the 1.6 petrol or diesel version? Where as the 1.6 petrol may be margionally more tractable (i.e quicker reving, a bit nippier) the diesel version will provide you with a bit more "umpf" with the bit more extra torque and may be a bit more suited to the requirements you have mentioned. How they behave in proper heat none of us in the UK would ever be able to answer that question accuratly as we think 20degrees C is hot and 30degrees C unbearable! and we very rarely ever get into the 20s! Having never owned a diesel version I may be talking out of my arse and have said all that without looking/ quoting any figures so I am prepared to be shot down and proven wrong :o  :P Anyways welcome and get rid or the Yaris and get yerself a C4 :D they look 10 times better for a start! :( Quote
Stuey Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I have driven both the 1.6 diesel and petrols. Indeed the Diesel has more get up and go and will rocket to the speed limit in any gear. The petrol is quite a bit nippier and the engine loves to rev up to the redline and is pulling all the way to the limit. I prefered the petrol, but obviously the choice is yours. As the engine is 16V and injected you will find it pretty quick and you shouldnt find yourself being left behind with "normal" cars, as for the 6.0 V8's you guys love you may struggle... hope that helps... wozza Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Engines in both cars have a similar output. Not sure if the yaris weighs any less or not though. Think if there is any difference between them speed wise it wont be that much all i can suggest is take one for a test drive and dont be scared to give it hell. The 1.6 needs to be at about 3500rpm before it will start to take off. The extra control will make a difference though i drive a couple autos and much prefer to drive my C4. Quote
Mainframe Posted October 16, 2006 Author Posted October 16, 2006 yeah we only get the coupe in petrol versions here. just the 1.6 and 2.0.diesel is only offered in the 5 door wagon/saloon c4. now all i have to do is learn manual and pay off my yaris to the point where trading it in will pay off the remainder owing on it  haha. but yeah the citroen definately looks a trillion times better. Stuey Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 you will get a lot more looks in the C4 than the Yaris. If it is the same as Yaris over here then it is regarded as a old ladies shopping cart... Quote
Mainframe Posted October 16, 2006 Author Posted October 16, 2006 lol its not that bad :Dbut yeah, i just emailed the dealership that my work gets their cars from asking about their finance options and prices and such. Quote
