Hi all,

car was left parked for about 7 weeks and when i came to start it, it wouldnt do anything.

Asked a mechanic to come change the battery when he finishes work and he did do.

But now whenever i operate the indicators they click faster than they should even though all 6 bulbs are working.

If i operate the hazard lights, they function as normal.

Also, i cant lock my car via the fob, it just flashes and the interior light slowly dies out.

I cant use the central locking via the button inside neither.

Am i right in assuming i need to reset the bsi??

Also, is it best to stay in the car when taking the battery leads off and does just the positive wire need to come off or both.

Any help would be appreciated.

Procedure to Initialize the Citroen BSI (Body Control Module) and Automatic Transmission for Citroen C8
On the Citroen C8 and Peugeot 807 the battery can be dis-connected and reconnected through the driver’s window (with the floor removed). If the battery is under the bonnet, open the bonnet first and leave it up, the car must be in “Unlock†status.

Procedure to Initialize the Citroen BSI (body control units) every time the battery is disconnected and reconnected:

1. Ensure no diagnostics tool is connected.
2. Put the driver's window down and ensure all equipment is switched off.
3. Ensure all doors are closed, remove key from the ignition and wait for 3 minutes.
4. Disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.
5. Reconnect the vehicle battery and wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors).
6. Switch on the side lights through the driver's window (you will hear a "bong").
7. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.
8. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.
9. Remove key, open & close door and test central locking system.
10. Start the engine and complete the system's check.
NOTE: Upon re-connection (soft re-boot), if any vehicle function controlled by the BSi (i.e . interior light) is switched on, the internal operation of the BSi has the potential to spike or corrupt its configuration and software program......

Procedure to Reset AL4 Automatic gearbox
Resetting the Gear Box can be done when required. This is by performing paddle learning. It is a way to teach the engine to shift up at lower RPM under normal driving style. The Gear Box can be taught to shift gear at around 2.5K or even lower:

1st step
Find a flat road more than 3km so that there is enough stretch to teach the gear box. The lesser the traffic and the longer the road the better.

2nd step.
Stop the car by the road side. Switch off the engine and all devices/switches/controls that consume electricity, for at least 10 seconds.

3rd step
Switch on the ignition (engine off) and step on the accelerator for also at least 10 second. Do nothing else.

4th step

Leaving ignition 'ON" release accelerator and step on the brake. While doing this move the gear shifting between P, R, N D, 1,2,3,4,3,2,1, and back to P. pausing momentarily between shifts. Keep repeating this for at least 20 second.

5th step
Step on the accelerator for at least 20 second then release. Do nothing else.

6th step
With the gear at the P level,
1- Start the engine and drive the car gently/progressively. Don't rush (If you drive it right 2nd gear will engage between 1.8-2k rpm)
2- Keep on moving and watch the RPM, You can stick to 2.5K RPM, The gear will shift up to 3 and 4 at 2.5k although it will take longer time to shift.
3- Just keep on driving for about 10km for the GB to learn the new shifting pattern. When slowing down ,speed up gently so that it will still shift up at around 2.5K.

If everything is right you will see gear shift pattern always below 3K and 60km/h cruising at around 1.5k rpm in top gear.
Note: Road condition will affect the ***oops*** pattern. It is normal to rise above 3K rpm when climbing hill or accelerating speedily.
(Changing to tiptronic will NOT disturb the shifting pattern thereafter)

Do this every time the car is serviced as the diagnostics computer will reset the shifting pattern

Welcome to the forum.

I am guessing the original battery had gone flat - was the voltage checked before it was disconnected ? Hopefully the reset will sort the problems, please let us know how you get on.

Citroens do not like it if the battery is disconnected without letting the bsi shutdown and then connected and starting the car before letting the bsi start up again. So if the battery was changed quickly it could have caused the odd electrical problems. If you search the internet you will find different bsi reset procedures but when just disconnecting and reconnecting a battery just to replace it or to charge it, I have never had to do a reset procedure and the following has always worked, copied from the C5 Technical section Common Problems pinned topic:

16. Odd electrical problems caused by wrong battery disconnection procedure.

If you need to disconnect the battery and not do a BSI reset procedure, I have found the following has not given me any problems on a 2004 and 2007 C5 and a 2003 C3:

- remove the ignition key from the car

- open the bonnet

- wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down

- disconnect the battery negative terminal

When reconnecting

- ignition key out of the car

- reconnect the battery

- wait a few minutes

- insert the key in the ignition and wait a minute (to do this first I have had to open and close the driver's door to get in the car since it is kept on the drive and a door or window could not be left open)

- turn the key to the first position and wait a minute

- turn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute

- start the engine

- take the windows down and up to reset the anti pinch

- reset the clock (and radio on the C3).
