BR4IND3AD Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I just got a c4 grand Picasso exclusive and I'm in love with it but there's a fault with the pneumatic rear suspension. If it has been standing for a few hours between journeys I get the 'service' warning light illuminated in orange and upon pulling away a warning comes up on the screen in the middle of the dashboard saying suspension faulty followed by a second message showing two wheels and an arrow with 5mph. I have taken this to mean "Don't drive faster than 5mph"and have found the ride is very bouncy. If I pull over and restart the engine it seems to be Ok most times but not all. Also I have noticed that the back end seems lower on the driver side. Does anyone know what is likely to be the cause and how I can get it sorted? Many thanks Quote
paul.h Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 It could be the suspension has a leak, a common problem which should be fixed by Citroen http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/21543-watchdog-questions-citroen-about-c4-suspension-issue/?do=findComment&comment=78910 Quote
BR4IND3AD Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 I'm about to contact the people who sold me the car to ask them to look into it under the terms of the warranty. I noticed a hiring sound coming from the back of the car on the drivers side so I suspect a puncture. A replacement airbag on eBay is around £180 which isn't too bad and having watched a video tutorial I believe it would only take a couple of hours to replace on my drive. Thanks for the info, very helpful. Will update as things develop Quote
paul.h Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 It may still be worth asking a Citroen dealer about it, especially if the supplier is reluctant to do anything or it affects the warranty claim limit (if any). Also if there are later problems and the work had not been done by Citroen then Citroen may not be interested. Quote
BR4IND3AD Posted January 26, 2017 Author Posted January 26, 2017 Not sure if this conversation will be bumped back to the top by adding new content but here goes... Almost a full year on and the suspension is displaying similar symptoms to those seen last year. Under 'normal working conditions' (?) , as I unlock the car, the air compressor can be heard briefly. I get in, start up and the compressor charges the system until the suspension is at the correct height and pressure. I drive A a to B, no problem. Lately, however, there have been many occasions where the compressor has remained silent upon unlocking and again after starting the engine. When moving away I am then presented with the orange 'service' light, a 'suspension faulty' sign and another telling me to drive at 5mph. Sometimes all I need to do is stop the car, turn everything off and wait a few seconds. The compressor starts, I start the engine and the system inflates. More recently, however, the car has taken to displaying the three aforementioned warnings whilst in transit and turning the engine off works much less often. Last year the place that sold me the car replaced the driver side airbag and the compressor. This time around it's looking like the passenger side bag has gone because the car sits lower on that side when the system needs pressurising. My concern is that there may be more than one problem so I'm hoping one of you might have had similar experiences and be able to let me know what else might need replacing so I don't get any expensive surprises as I'm taking it to a Citroën specialist on Tuesday. Thanks Quote
paul.h Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Did you contact a Citroen dealer last time to see if Citroen would sort it free of charge, also worth enquiring again unless you have already done this. Possibly there is a level sensor or something that is sticking so the pump does not start straight away. Quote
BR4IND3AD Posted January 26, 2017 Author Posted January 26, 2017 Hi Paul, no they weren't contacted. I spoke to the garage where I bought the car and they said they didn't think Citroën would do anything about it as they had already done some work to it. That said I may contact them after the diagnostic on Tuesday, particularly if it's going to be very expensive to repair it through the place where the diagnosis is being done. Quote
paul.h Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 There may be one or two height sensors on your car and the Citroen part no. may be 5273E9. As an example which may help you find it/them http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-CITROEN-C4-Picasso-5273E9-Sensor-de-altura-del-cuerpo-/161955109245/?_ul=EC If the sensors are replaced it might need a diagnostic to set the height. If you are going to touch height sensors the car should be on axle stands in case the suspension drops to a low level. Quote
BR4IND3AD Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 Ok so there have been fresh developments yesterday/today. When the system is 'working' the compressor has sounded, on a few occasions, like its struggling to get enough power so I rev the engine which seems to work briefly but then the revs drop even though I haven't raised my foot. Then today each time I've been able to get the system working it has kept pumping until telling me there's a fault without me even moving the car. :-/ Quote
BR4IND3AD Posted January 30, 2017 Author Posted January 30, 2017 Thanks for the link to the email listing by the way Paul. On a completely unrelated note, the cigar lighter sockets on my c4 are damaged. Would you happen to know the part number for those so I can look into replacing them? Thanks again for all your help Quote
