Duck999 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 (edited) Hi All, I'm going to be getting a second hand Grand Picasso 2014 BlueHDI 150 Exclusive+. Been test driving the car and every time after about 5 minutes. I see these yellow lights come on (non-flashing): UreaServiceEngine Management Light (Check engine light) It doesn't come on after ignition. It comes on after I drive for a while, stop and accelerate again. Asked the dealer the fix it. But every time he reset the service light it comes back on again after I repeat the test drive. The car had a new fresh battery replaced. After some research and reading C4GP/PSA car manuals, the Urea + Service basically means AdBlue is low and need topping up. But I can't find why the engine management light (EML) comes on *as well*! I will ask the dealer the top up AdBlue and hope that the Urea and Service light will go away. Is there anything to worry about if the EML comes on? There's also a message about "engine fault" and some problem with the "emissions control system". Is this serious? Is the car worth buying even at a discount? Other than that the car seem to run perfectly. Thanks. Edited May 29, 2017 by Duck999 Quote
paul.h Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Welcome to the forum. How many miles has the car done, is the servicing up to date ? Since the urea (adblue) warning is on it does not suggest much about the seller if they have not already topped it up since the cost is only a few pounds and if it removes the warnings then it would help sell the car. The service light might mean it needs the urea topping up. Note if the urea runs out the engine will be prevented from running. There is likely a separate problem that is causing the eml to come on and the dealer possibly knows what it is since when the code reader is plugged in to reset the eml he will have read the fault code. Ask what the fault code is and then do some checks to see what it means. I would not buy a car with a fault and a dealer should not be doing this either. Quote

Miles around 31800 with full Citroen service history: 3 stamps. From many days of research it does suggest that the the Service light does come on with the Urea light - so both are the same thing like you said. The EML light is a bit of a mystery and is my main concern. This is my observation: - All 3 lights come on at the same time: Service, Urea, EML.- They do not come on right after starting engine.- They come on driving around 5 minutes along a straight road and subsequently pulling out of the same first junction. This suggests that something to do with the emissions system responding to the acceleration. Bad fuel? Faulty catalytic converter? I got an update from the dealer. They have topped up the AdBlue and assured me that these lights shouldn't come on again. I will check tomorrow! Another thing is the air-con isn't working. Is this a simple problem solvable by re-gassing? Or does it suggest there is also a more serious problem with the compressor and other components? The car is still under 3 years old so still under warranty. If the air-con did turn out to be faulty is the fault covered by warranty? Thanks! Edited May 31, 2017 by Duck999 Quote
paul.h Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 To use the air con the cabin fan needs to be running first, also the engine fan will run. If it is not working with the cabin fan on then the dealer should have it fixed before you decide to buy the car (could be a pressure sensor/compressor/temperature sensor/possibly a leak/controller fault/fault with one of the fans) and it should be covered by the warranty. If the dealer does a diagnostic on the air con it will give the reason for it not working. At 3 years old it should not need regassing provided the previous owner used it every few weeks so the seals did not dry out. On our C5 and the previous one, I had these regassed at 7 years when they were not cooling down as much, our other Citroens have not needed doing. The eml will come on for any fault that can affect the emissions, so things like cam shaft sensors and other sensors that affect the engine running can put the eml on if they are faulty. Only way to find out which is to use a code reader - when you next go to your dealer maybe they will give you the code if they made a note of it before deleting it. It is worth buying you own code reader since they cost less than a visit to a garage and one that gives some live engine data is more useful, as an example https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT200.html Makes you wonder why the dealer is not fixing the problems, sometimes they will say things will be fixed if you agree to buy a car. If so it should be written down on the sales invoice, then there is no wriggling out later since the cost of repairs comes out of their profit. Possibly if it is later done under warranty the cost is paid by Citroen, rather than the sales team. If the car has the air suspension this can give problems with leaks and I think this was on BBC's Watchdog some time ago. Quote
Duck999 Posted June 1, 2017 Author Posted June 1, 2017 What's the difference between Nt200 and Nt301? The last being almost twice the price. Is it really better than the first? Thanks. Quote
paul.h Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 If you click on the link you can then click on Product comparison which lists the 200 vs the 301. The main differences seem to be the dearer one has a colour screen and will show graphs of the sensor values - I have a code reader that does graphs but it is not really any use. If you were going to spend over £70 you would be better getting a Lexia to put on a lap top which lets you access all the cars systems, not just engine sensors. Quote

I'll probably go for the NT200 as I'm new to these things. I'll post an update when I get the code associated with the EML  Quote

This model was never fitted with air suspension. In fact the later run-out models of the older version called Platinum (basically equivalent to Exclusive) changed to springs, so air didn't make it t the end of the older version. Quote
