I've just bought a 2014 C4 Petrol automatic, it takes about 45 minutes driving (at around 50-60 mph) for the heater to start to pump out reasonably warm air, does anyone else have this problem?  Also I'm getting less than 40 mpg, is this normal?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds as if the engine thermostat needs replacing. If your car has a warranty then I would take it back to the dealer since they are not cheap as they can come as part of a housing.

From a brochure for the petrol 2014 C4 it gives the official mpg as

- 1.6 vti 120 hp automatic 28.2 / 55.4 / 40.9 mpg urban/extra urban/combined

- 1.6 THP 155 egs6 engine 32.8 / 55.4 / 44.1 mpg

so it looks as if your mpg is about right or a bit low which could be due to the engine running cold. If you push on the end of the wiper stalk it will reset the trip computer in case the indicated low mpg is due to short trips by the previous owner.

If it is the vti engine I would keep an eye on the oil level since our 1.4 vti C3 has always used oil, about 1 litre every 2000 miles. The timing chains can also wear so listen for any noise which could suggest this. Our C3 is on 55k miles and is showing signs of needing the chain replacing.
