Hi everyone, the engine light has come on, can anyone help is there a common cause on the C crosser? Many thanks

Only way to find out the fault is to use a code reader. Any other way can prove expensive replacing possible faulty parts until the right one is found. Code readers are not expensive, a lot less than paying a garage for a diagnostic. Ones that give some live data are more useful than a basic one but can cost about £40 as opposed to £10.
