Scarbro Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Hi all Just wondering if anyone can give me an indication of tyre wear on diesel C4's. The reason I ask is that my son has had a diesel 306 and now has a 2.2 TDCI Mondeo and on both the tyre wear seems quite high at the front although it could be the way he drives, it's either all or nothing on both the accelerator and brakes. My previous Xsara did 40k miles on the original tyres before I wrote it off last year and it's now nearly decision time on the next car so I thought I'd ask. ThanksPhil Quote

C4VTS Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 I have 3mm left on both fronts at 20,000 miles on VTS 2.0HDi Previous cars have not lasted more than 15,000 miles. The C4 seems quite good for tyre wear. If I drove like an old granny, I could probably get 40,000 miles from the fronts. Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I don't think the fact that it's diesel has much to do with it - although the engines are a bit heavier. I have a new C5 which got through its front tyres in 12000 miles. A previous diesel Xantia did 30000 miles and a BX did 42000. When I got the new tyres I also got the tracking checked. It was miles out, and probably had been when it came from the factory. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I would think its down to a few things, tyre pressures, driving style and being a diesel engine.Yes rears do last almost forever Quote
Scarbro Posted January 1, 2007 Author Posted January 1, 2007 Thanks for your replies. I certainly did not drive the Xsara like an old granny, that car had a beautiful 1.6 engine and I made use of it but probably not like a 16 year old!! Apparently those Michelin's have a long lifespan. Phil Quote
Stuey Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Z3M got 35K out of his tyres if I remember rightly, he is a rep so all of those miles would have been at high speed :D Quote
C4VTS Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Tyre wear does depend a lot on your own driving habits, and the type of roads you drive on.It will be different for everyone, as we don't all use the same roads and drive at the same speeds. Different roads also have different surfaces which can wear out tyres faster than others, so there is no one answer that fits all drivers. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 My C4 HDi is a company car and as such gets driven fairly hard most of the time. The original Michelin fronts lasted 35,000miles and I am still on the original rears at 53,000miles! Beat that. Steady Stuey, I'm not a rep, but the miles were at high speed! Quote

Sorry dude, you must be some sort of salesman to do that many miles... Quote

Stuey Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 cool a new game! guess Z3's job....right so we have had rep and salesman. cant really think of any other job that could make you do 50K miles in about a year...anyone else have ideas?? Quote
C4VTS Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I used to commute from Kent to Hamphire everyday and easily clocked more than 50,000 miles per year in my company car, but luckily all my personal mileage was paid for by my employer. Z3M's job may be totally unrelated to the mileage he does. Service engineer or courier of some kind would be high on the list. Quote
hertsnminds Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 My 5 door 1.6 (110) diesel is up to 19k miles and tyres seem fine. I did get them swapped front to back at the 12.5k service. The only problem I know about with French diesels was with engines from the Pug 106, 405 era where one side would wear more than the other (can't remember if it was near or off side fronts). He could just push a pen around a desk for hours on end and just have a long drive to work and back, may not be a salesman. :P Perhaps he sells shower curtain rings like Dale out of Trains, Planes and Automobiles Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Some interesting guesses chaps, albeit incorrect. My daily commute is a 70 mile round trip. I also have a once a month trip to my other office in Walsall. To put everyone straight, I am one of two Acquisition Surveyors for William Hill covering the South East of England, hence the high mileage. Not as exciting as a gigolo! Quote
lee_marshuk Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Aaah Walsall....might see you around then! :( Quote
