Rich_Eason Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Cleaning the car at the weekend I noticed that the drivers seat has become damaged  There is a small split about half inch long on the right hand bolster where the Alcantara meets the Vinyl although it is not split along the seam, it is adjacent to it. It hasnt completly split through to the padding material beneath however you can see the backing material of the vinyl. I'm absolutly gutted about this and can only think that this has been caused by the rivets on a pair of jeans or something getting in and out of the car... I know a pic would help, does anyone know if this the of thing is repairable? I'm just worried that if left the car will become a prime example of the old thread bare Citroens of the past and the material will split more... I'm gutted  Quote

Or could be an excuse to get a full retrim :P Thats not an option, for the size of the damage I'd be happy to replace the panel but not the hole car. Besides which if I do that I still have the seat airbag to contend with. What about these repair kits you can get, does anyone have any experience with them? My heart sunk when I saw it   Quote
ham's c4vts Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 ive had same on mine Rich but not a long tear just two short ones , it was the rivets on my jeans  it had been in for head lamp washers before christmas(first time) and i was going to complain until i noticed the rivet was sticking out on the arse of my jeans i was gutted to, so ive got to get it sorted.there is a firm up here called chips away that are supposed to repair anything cosmetic on the car. Stuey Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I left a pen in my back pocket and punched a hole in mine  Quote
Rich_Eason Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 On the Halfords site they have some kits that looks like you glue using some sort of epoxy type resin and then iron over a "matching" patch. Being that the hole isnt huge and not always in line of sight I'm not so worried about an "exact" match as long as its near as damit, what I am worried is the split getting bigger. If not there are also some Vinyl seat repair kits for motorcycle seats (Coolcarbon?) have you had any experience with these? I'm quite a crafty/arty guy and reckon I can do this as long as it doenst look like I've stuck black insulation tape over the split. The other option is this...LINK I wondered about the pro repair route, but one thing that bothered me was the logistics of getting the airbag disconnected then take the car to be repaired and then ensure the car doesnt "have one" whilst the bag is disconnected and driven.....and then getting the car reconnected and configured because the airbag has "had one". You can see the forum pages already - Upholsterer has sewn my airbag to the seat HELP! Either that or it goes off in his/her face as they stick the needle through it. Although reassuring to see its not only mine that has this problem, it is obviously a weak spot in the design of the seat where it is abraded by clothes. Perhaps Ham we should start to wear Parisien Aut'couture clothing without any harsh jeans rivets....? Quote
Stuey Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 mine was my own fault but it is clear that our cousins from accross the channel do not wear jeans... Quote
iannez Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 have you priced a seat base cover. trim repair specialists touch it in with glue and airbrush fibre over it which might work but would be a shame to go down this road and waste money if you have to end up changing the cover if it does not work or ends up looking worse. i would try for warrenty claim any way and say it just come away. we have ppl coming in all the time trying there luck so why shouldnt you. we had some one come in the other week with a 51 reg picasso with 85000 miles on it complaning the cloth had come away from around his airbag and demanded we repaired it under warrenty as he was a lorry driver and his truck had nearly 200,000 miles on it and it hadnt happend to this. he even called citroen uk about it. good luck anyway. I havnt priced it and dread to think how much it would be, besides which it is the seat back side right hand side where you slide over it to get in to the seat. And if I try and claim what do you think the best way to put a case forward would be? Suggest that the material used to cover the seat isnt durable/resistant enough? Arnt they just going to turn around and say "so what dont wear jeans.." Any help suggestions and advice would be most apretiated :D Quote
iannez Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 is it a split or scratch-scuff. if its a split dont mention anything about jeans or you doing it. just insist it just came away. ps dont wear jeans when you go to the dealers. Quote

wozza Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Leather retrim your looking at £1000+ easily. Just try get it through under warranty easier. Quote
Rich_Eason Posted February 20, 2007 Author Posted February 20, 2007 The damage has been caused (I would assume) by persistant rubbing of clothing on the same patch everytime you get in and out of the car, and can only assume not helped by wearing jeans. I'll try the warrenty route first although I can see it is going to be a battle. There are some other bits as well that need doing so here goes! Quote

jonfish Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Surely leather seats should stand up to reasonable wear and tear. Given the price of this option on top of the standard car I would say Citroen should repair this FOC or at least offer some good will £££. I don't think wearing bog standard jeans is unreasonable. Is there anything in writing in any literature about the care of the seats that mentions the clothes you can't wear ?? Quote
Rich_Eason Posted February 23, 2007 Author Posted February 23, 2007 I dont think it is unreasonable to assume that any seat covering material should be up for the job leather or not. I looked but it only item of clothing it mentions are sun glasses. When I bought the car I negotiated an extended warenty out of the dealer, read through the T&C's and it mentions that it does not cover tears or damage to seat coverings and fabric. My argument is nearly 2years and already seat coverings are damaged, the car has hardly done any miles so is the fabric really up to the job? I can see this going on some time with the dealer, just need to get some time off work so I can get it down there :D Quote
