My old man is having problems with the factory fitted alarm on his 2000 Xantia 1.8i

Last week he was driving along and the alarm went off! Another time it was locked and went off for no apparant reason. Then another fine day he had it locked but had left a window open, it would normally have gone off within a few minutes but didn't!

Then last night it went off at 4am!

Given that it's probably no longer a likely target for car thieves, he just wants to disconnect it.

I am told that the alarm sounder is under the wiper motor although it is not visible, but as he has had the windscreen replaced, the black trim and grill above the wiper motor have been sealed to the windscreen so I am unable to get in at it to snip the wires.

I have tried resetting the alarm by pressing the alarm button for 30sec with the ignition on and doors closed but this does not seem to have worked as the alarm will not go off at the moment no matter what I do to try and trigger it. (At least the sounder doesn't operate, although the hazards flash as if the alarm was going off!)

Does anyone know where the black box for the alarm is? And what colour are the wires I need to snip to disable the sounder?

Or any other solutions?

He would like to get this sorted before the neighbours resort to a shotgun!!!

Any help greatly appreciated...

I have a similar problem, the alarm seems to activate (have turned it off under the bonnet so just headlights flashing, no siren) every time I get in to any door or bonnet.

How can this be switched off?

It doesn't prevent the car starting, so I'd rather just turn it off altogether if that's possible?

I know this one's a bit old now, but the alarm can be disabled simply by locking the car with the key in the door rather than by the "Plip". This works for my Mk2 with radio key. I'd imagine the IR type on earlier ones is the same. Hope this helps.

Firstly Hi all,

I'm Pete and a Citroen convert. I have pretty much always had Rover 620's especially the Ti but when looking for a new car I considered a Citroen simply because I drive a berlingo van and it's soooo comfy and reliable. A friend of mine has a picasso but not my cup of tea although again comfy as ****!

I spotted my X reg 2000 Citroen Xantia 1.8i Forte and after driving it snapped it up. To date no worries at all. Probably the best car I've had comfort wise although I did have a 2.5V6 Omega which is pretty close.

My query is this:

Just as everyone else my alarm is silent. It arms ok, indicators flash etc and disarms fine too. When activated the lights flash as they should and deactivate via the fob. My question is how do i turn the sound back on?

I have read all about this key switch under the bonnet etc but I just can't find it at all. Anyone got a pic of what it's like and where as like I said I just cant find it anywhere?

Cheers in advance

Hi there

My dads alarm is goin all stupid, we cant even disconnect the battery to do work on the car as it uses its back up battery and still goes off!

Anyway, the switch you asked about is on the black trim directly under the windscreen on the passenger side when you lift the bonnet. It's under a little round black plastic cover. It tells you on the top of the cover which way to turn it to switch it on or off. Hope that helps! :)

I have also heard that if the car battery is a little weak, it can trigger the alarm for no reason.

Good luck!

Thanks for that but on looking I still can't see anything. Are there certain models where this switch was not installed?

I have lifted the bonnet and looked on the black trim ( there is a part that is like a plastic grillwork with a cut out circular section in it) BUT there is no cap or cover or keyhole????

Am I the only one who actually wants to have the alarm sounding? Mind you I do live in an area where being informed your car is being tampered with would be an advantage

hi all

if the car has had a new wingscreen fitted, it sometimes seals the key hole, so you can't find it. i only know this as at 3 this morning my alarm thought it sounds lovely to got off every 15/30 minutes, in between resetting and searching the net. i found this out. hope it helps you all out abit more.
