DaveHerns Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I have a 2006 2000 Hdi C5 estate and every few months it loses power . Symptoms are that the accelerator pedal seems to have no effect on the revs which drop to tickover. Switch off the ignition and on again , and it fires up and runs OK , Seems to happen after a period in slow traffic although today it happened at 40 mmph in 4th.,Car seems to be a bit jerky immediately before this happensIt's been in the dealers twice and they've found messages like "engine torque reaction" which they had never seen before and last time they said the speed sensor was not communicating with the ECU.No warning lights/messages showingI'm inclined to think it needs a new throttle position sensor - any ideas?ThanksDave Quote

A friend of mine was able to focus his attention more closely on the throttle sensor when the cruise control worked when the throttle gave problems. Quote

A friend of mine was able to focus his attention more closely on the throttle sensor when the cruise control worked when the throttle gave problems. ThanksYes it has cruise control but I never use itThis happens as quickly as - I'm driving along , the car feels a bit jerky, it then slows down , I coast to a halt , turn off and back on again and drive off and it's OK till next timeCan any part ie the TPS have an intermittent fault that doesn't register a fault code ?Dave Quote

I have had it since mid August 2007.I have an identical problem to you, which has occurred 6 times now at speeds from 25 to 70mph.The Dealer is at the moment trying to sort it out. However I hope you got yours fixed. Be great if you could let us know.I've had the Throttle sensor replaced and the Computer had a new download etc etc. This particular fault (loss of throttle control), hasn't been cured. The instability at slower 'traffic' speeds seems to have been cured last week when the car was in the Dealer's, but the very next morning, at 70mph in an overtake on the dual carriageway, the car refused input from the throttle. You're right in saying you haven't got time to fiddle about with the Cruise control. (to see if that 'speed' input works). If they don't sort it this time, I will be emailing Citroen UK, Citroen Technical in France AND BBC Watchdog. If this happens at 70mph outside lane of M25, I could die !! Also Trip meter is 15% wrong. After 2000 miles of carefully monitoring fuel in to miles done, the trip says 42mpg and the actual usage is 37mpg. (Fuel/Distance left in the tank will also be wrong). Then there's the hesitation of the 6 speed autobox. Launch across a busy roundabout is rather dangerous as the gearbox prevents power being applied for up to a second.I wonder if I should start driving my XM again !!All the best,Terry Toye Quote

Guest Terry Toye Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Terry has phoned me following this email .Both of us are waiting to see if our cars are "cured"If not , watch out CitroenHi Guys,Thought I'd better follow this up.Both Dave Herns & myself have had both the throttle sensor & then the 'Throttle Body' changed.I have done about 2500 miles since then and (fingers crossed), the fault hasn't re-appeared. This is a potentially dangerous* fault so be aware that you will have to be pro-active with your dealer to get this problem sorted if it appears. (* Dangerous to YOU, not the car). Terry Toye Quote
DaveHerns Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 Hi everyone Mine has also been OK recently but I haven't used it that much. I've lost confidence and worry it might cut out when pulling out into the outside lane of the M25 I've found some fellow sufferers on the Singapore Citroen Forum http://www.citroenchat.com/forum/index.php?topic=479.0 Very helpful to have a bit of support when , as in my case , I was asked what evidence there was of any fault - ie Was I making it up Dave Quote
