Guest C2GT1328 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 My C2 GT has just had its first MOT and failed, both nearside and off side rear brake brake hose excessively deteriorated (MOT ref: 3.6.B.4d). Being only three years old I questioned this and the guy who did the MOT pointed out the problem. On the pipe that leaves the rear caliper (NS & OS) it eventually meets up with a steel braided hose that runs through a rubber protection tube. Here lies the problem, when the pipe is installed this flexi part of the pipe bends and in doing so pulls the covering tube away from the crimped end and exposes the steel braiding underneath. The cover is not crimped, Hence the failure for brake pipe deterioration. I purchased two new rear pipes (part No 4887 65 and 4887 66) from the Citroen dealer. I decided not fit these put instead took them along to the MOT station and demonstrated to the MOT guy that the rubber tubing floated and was not crimped and therefore not a part of the brake hose. Bending the hose proved this. He was happy with the explanation and gave me a MOT certificate. Had I changed the brake pipes the problem would still be there as it will be at the next MOT. Just before my next MOT I will remove the offending cover and replace it with clear polythene tubing cut along its length, pass it over the braided steel hose and cable tie the protective cover so that it looks obvious that it is only a protective cover. I cannot fault the MOT tester as it did look as though he was correct when he showed me the problem in situ, but he did accept my explanation. Something you don't see everyday. Quote
shakey Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 when the c2s came out at the begining they had a recal on SOME of them relating to what u said. only the pipes were rubbing on th splashgaurd. Quote
iannez Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 this was only the nearside rear pipe. the shape of the guard was diffrent because of the fuel filler neck. we had to heat them up and re-mould them so they cleared the pipe. Quote
