Johndouglas Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 It's a nuisance of a job to remove the undertray before changing oil. The C5's is the worst one I've come across. With our Xsara, all that's necessary is to drop the front edge and prop the drain dish on the undertray. With my previous Xantia, the undertray had a convenient trapdoor just beneath the drain plug, so the tray didn't have to come off.As to whether you can leave it off - if you do you'll hear more engine noise; air flow won't be as smooth and the edges of the inner wings will flap about as you drive, probably sustaining damage. I've tried it!!! Quote

Guest EddyBaby Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Had my under-engine cover removed by local Citroen garage during service. They made out it was because it was damaged and to stop if coming off and causing an accident. What they didn't tell me is that the side bits which locate onto the central flat portion, vibrate badly at anything over 60mph. I just about had a heart attack as it sounded as though something had come off the car and was dragging along the road! When I complained, they said none of their other customers who'd had this removed had experienced problems. I'm now wondering if there have been some incidents involving this bit dropping off..... Did not have one on my old XM. if you are going to keep it on there make sure that it is not one of the earlier type with the ridges directly under the sump. the sump is made of ally and therfor is prone to ware. you will end up with a groove in your sump that can go all the way through and cause a oil leek, were the fins are on the inside of the plastic cover. If you really need to fit it and keep your engine clean grind the fins off this will stop the cover from causing a huge bill when it comes to refit of sump. Quote
