Guest Alison Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Hi all, I have a late 2006 1.4hdi C3, my question is with the rise in fuel prices, whats the chances of running my little darling on cooking oil? I would appreciate any advice on this. Quote
Johndouglas Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Why do you want to save a few pounds on buying 'real' diesel then have to lash out hundreds on new injection equipment. That's the risk! Quote
raveydavey Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 No idea how you'd get your C3 to run on waste chip fat - or indeed where you'd get suitable quantities of it from. And even if you did you still have to pay duty. Is it worth it, even at £1 a litre? It has been suggested more than once that there is virtually no chance whatsoever of a small car being stopped and having the tank dipped to see if "red" diesel is being used. Of course to do so would be strictly illegal and couldn't be condoned in any way. Quote
Johndouglas Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 And even if you did you still have to pay duty. Not so! You are allowed to 'manufacture' your own fuel up to a maximum of around 2000ltrs (????) per year without declaring it. Quote

Plus it would never run on 100% cooking oil so the hassle factor just goes up and up. Better of shopping for groceries wherever they're offering a fuel discount to shoppers... Quote
fishears Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 You'll find it mentioned in here:-http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/customs.html Looks like that's true. It is described in this official memorandum. I'm surprised it isn't more widely known under the current climate... Even so, my mechanic told me not to (and I trust him). Quote
Phaeton Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 there's all the paperwork you have to do declaring the fuel duty,There is no paperwork to do as long as you don't use more than 2500 litres a year, you just save your receeipts. Alan... Quote
