Guest stephendrak01 Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 right for the past 1000 miles my car has been making a click every four sec's when im accelerating, no matter what gear im in at all speeds, if im coasting in gear down hill or to a stop the noise does not happen, also only just noticed when the car is revved past say 3.5k (diesel) it makes a very fast tickking noise. i have no lose of power (just been bedding my new pads and dics in) will revv all the way to 4.5k i have had it looked at by a local mechanic who believes it COULD be the gerabox, however i know we have some mechanically knowledgeable people on here so i thought i would ask. my problem is that its 150 quid for the gearbox to be dropped and replaced, and the cheapest s/h box i can get is 250 quid, so i could spend 400 notes and still have the problem!! car is a Citroen C5 2.0hdi 90 Quote
Guest stephendrak01 Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Anyone? the C5 has now broken and i had to get a new car, any way after my mechanic had taken a look at it he said i needed a new box, and that i had a oil leak from somewhere on the engine. he advised me that my min bill would be 650 pounds, so im going to (try) drop the box myself and get a s/h box. does any one have any hints or tips for me along the way??? Thanks Stephen Quote

Thanks Stephen I dont have any advice unfortunately as ive never done a gear box but just wanted to say good on you for having a go. I recently had the same dilema on my wifes rover 200 - the head gasket blew and the car was only worth £600 - garage wanted £450 so I ended up having a go myself. It took me two full days but it was fixed for about £100 quid and i have the satisfaction of knowing its been done properly. Quote
