Hi - just read the post in another thread about a problem with the anti-pollution system and wanted to check if anyone else had had problems in the C8 diesel.

We've had ours (2.0 SX) for 18 months. No probs in that time, apart from ghastly fuel consumption (29mpg average). But a month ago it started having this power loss problem and threw up a anti-pollution light. Took it to Belmont Citroen in Edinburgh, who cleaned some electrovalve and sent us on our way - ie as predicted by citroenmyarse. Seemed ok again for a few weeks, but last week started happening again. It's scary stuff - you'll be pulling onto a roundabout, or out onto a dual carriageway and suddenly the revs drop down to about 1000 and you're coasting. It usually clears itself again after around 10-20 seconds, but for that time, you're stranded, basically a sitting target for anyone behind you.

Anyway, it's going back into Belmont today to get the same valve replaced - again as predicted. I'll let them know about the exhaust sensor insulation problem mentioned in the other thread.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

We've had our 2.0 HDI Auto fro 18 months too. No anti-pollution problems at all. Mind you, it does make some weird noises and smells at times - which I assume is all part of the anti-pollution electronics.

Bit surprised you are only getting 29 mpg - maybe its related? We get 29 on average from our auto, which is about what I would expect. These are heavy cars but I would have thought 35 should be possible on average from a manual.

You can ignore government mpg figures. I reckon the urban figure is about what one can get in the real world.

Hi - I have a 2.0 Hdi from September 2003 and have similar problems but worse to the power loss as Ian below - it now happens every 3-4 days and I am a taxi driver having done 75500 miles in the 18 months since new! If I do any distance at motorway speeds, as I pull off the motorway it will start happening - if I pull up at lights the revs drop to the 1000 tickover and go from 500 - 1000 without touching any throttle and then won't pull away and I have to feather the throttle to get the revs up to pull away at high revs. Also audible diesel knock - I wonder if there is something with the electronic brain of the fuel injection as yours is petrol and mine is diesel - I have no fault lights showing and have had it checked on Citroen's computer and no faults have shown up. I now have a diesel additive low message showing and it seems that the problem is now less but still there. I have also been advised by Citroen that the particle catcher in the exhaust system (catalyser on petrol cars) may need renewing at a cost of £900 plus labour!!!!!!!

I was approached by another taxi driver in a brand new C8 but didn't have time to talk detail - he said he had terrible trouble with his and it had been off the road more times than on!

Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on this please.

Does anyone know of a fix yet?

To add to the list.

We bought a second hand c8 hdi 03 reg in july 05 with 24k on the clock.

Started having problems soon after but very irregular/intermittent. Have already had several trips to the garage where the computer/diagnostics always says there is nothing wrong. I want to take the car in when the problem is occuring but they can never fit me in and by the time they get to see the car the problem has gone away. I am still working on the garage and hopefully next time it happens they might take it.

There is no engine fault indication probably as the computer reckons there is nothing wrong. A guy at the garage explained to me that the computer checks the emisions and makes adjustments accordingly. The computer looks back over X amount of time of the previous driving. We have found that the problem appears to occur when the car has been used on short trips of a few miles over a week or two. After taking the car on a long motorway journey the problem will go away, for a short time.

We have had an anti-pollution fault on the LCD display, but some flow valve failed around the same time and we have had no anti-pollute warning since. The low/cyclic revs still continues.

If you try and maintan revs of 2000, the car revs itself between 1000 and 2000. Also you put your foot down at the roundabout or traffic lights, the car occasionally stalls as the revs drop, very dangerous.

Will post more info as we find it, however the car is out of manufacturers warrant in July and my wife wants to get rid of the car if it is not fixed by then.

Did you extend the warranty birdscage because of the amount of mileage you do?

HELP ME PLEASE. I purchased a C8 2.0 sx hdi from dealership. Car was 19 months old with 9300 miles. Car was previously owned by Citroen uk. After about 6 months the now familiar warning signs, 'ANTI-POLLUTION FAULT' and 'UNBLOCK FUEL FILTER' started to show periodically. These messages seemed to coincide with loss of power on acceleration which was obviously very worrying indeed. The C8 was under manufacturers warranty when I reported

the problem.

Attempted diagnosis by the expert technicians, included; Ghost messages, electronic glitches and new models teething problems! After many visits and time wasted, they eventually replaced fuel filler cap pressure sensor. Within a short time the problems reappeared. I registered the problem with Citroen HQ as it became clear to me that the technicians and service staff at the authorised dealership were guessing on how to resolve the persistant problem.

After returning our family car again, and having to put up with a C3 as a replacement vehicle, (a slight improvement on C1 which we had enjoyed previously but very cramp for a family of five). On this occassion the pressure differential sensor was replaced.

The same warning messages continue periodically. They have never been remedied. The only time they did not appear was for a period of four to six months after I believe the vehicles E.C.U was re-set or re-booted.

My C8 is now at the dealership apparently requiring a new engine!!! A four year old car with

34k miles on clock. Lack of oil and poor quality of oil due to no service ever being undertaken have caused this terrible situation. How can this happen? I had purchased a C8 on HP from an authorised dealership. It was 19 months old and had 9K miles. I was informed

by the salesman at the time that the car had been used as a test vehicle and was previously owned by Citroen uk. I was told that the car would be serviced and valeted before I took possession of it. I am now told by the dealership that the car was not serviced as it had not reached its recommended service interval. They do not admit to any responsibility in failing to advise me of any sevices due or overdue and that I have missed not one but two recommended services. 12,500 miles and 25,000 miles or every two years. Was I really expected to return to the dealership within a few thousand miles or 5 months and pay for its

first service after paying 16k for the car. Apparently so.

I have experienced shambolic incompetence from so called Citroen trained sevice technicians and service staff. All their publicity on having the latest diagnostic testing machines and excellent aftersales care did not help me. In fact I believe that their attempt to

fix the electronic faults on the car has messed up the cars on board service indicator. It never indicated any services missed and even now is showing that I am overdue a service by 2k miles.

I have complained to Citroen UK (19/2/08) and spoken to the patronizing regional manager for the south east who had sided with dealership even before having heard my complaints concerning a faulty vehicle and the negligent service that I have encountered with their authorised dealership. It may not come as a surprise that I have still not recieved a written reply clarifying their position.

Remarkably it is the finance company to which I owe two more years of payments, which have been the most efficient in their care and attitude to me.

If anyone has had the same level of incompetence from Citroen or their franchises please let me know. They cannot continue to get away with it!
