Had my Aygo for nearly 2 months now & the last 2 tanks have given me 62 & 59mpg. This is mainly a/b roads & a little town. Have been using Shell v-power.

How does this compare to your economy???

V power is going to make no difference other than a bigger dent in your wallet on that engine. Just put a tank or 2 in every so often to clean it out and then use 95 the rest of the time.

Not like the engine is mapped to take advantage of the 99ron fuel. Not to mention turbo charged impreza's etc only normally about 7bhp more using it.

Much the same @ 62 mpg but not really bothered about the type of fuel, especially as it would cost more to travel to certain garages for the stuff.

@ 55 miles per day with 1/3 in 30-40-50 zones and 2/3 of route on dual carriageway.

I'm getting 61MPG but that is mostly on my commute on empty country lanes around 50MPH with hardly any stops. Great stuff what with the cheap road tax as well.

On another note, I have recently completed a Police Driving Course and was told that keeping the revs up in a car, not changing to 4th gear until you reach 40MPH, was more efficient. I can't see how this could be, any cooments?

I'll be trying this out in the C1 now to see if the economy changes at all. One thing I have noticed is that I get to places a lot quicker though.

I've heard that before. I think it is because the engine works most efficiently when it is revving above the torque peak, but not taken right to the red line.

The idea is to use the engine efficiently at about 2/3 throttle to get to cruising speed, and then to brake as little as possible to maintain momentum.

I suppose using very light throttle openings it takes ages to get up to speed, so the car is accelerating for longer and using the engine in a less efficient way :D

I guess when you learnt to drive you weren't told 1st - 10mph 2nd - 20mph 3rd- 30mph 4th - 40mph and 5 th -50 for anything after that? If you have an extra gear adjust as some mean 3rd at 20 depending on ratios. Basically no need to take anything about 3500rpm if you do on normal driving you are in the wrong gear. 2500 rpm is about the best time to change gear. Usually.

MY mothers car actually has a section in the RPM gauge marked as Economy so you keep within that range I still change gear myself even in an auto and I get better MPG than the computer can.

How do you manage such bad economy? Are you thrashing the nuts off it as if you are you might have more mechanical trouble not to far ahead. 3 cylinders can't take a hard life, you might be better off buying something a little bigger.

It's on the to-do list. Looking at 350z's, just waiting for my employer to agree to give me a car allowance!

I'm getting 60.77mpg average over the last 3 tankfuls. Average over 1 year is 57.59mpg. Best (last tankful) is 64.63mpg. Almost all my driving is 15 mile commute to work, roughly 5 miles urban 30mph / 5 miles A road and 5 miles motorway. Keep speed down to 50mph on A roads and 55-60mph on motorway.

I finally got a couple of longer journeys in and did 340 miles, half on motorway at 65 to 75mph. And the rest out of town driving quite rapidly at 50 to 70 when possible, and I got 52mpg

was meant to get my c1 on sunday but it wasnt ready so i was mighty peed of :o .they gave me a courtesy car (c1 with 600miles on) for my 440 mile return trip from london to scotland i drove about 300 miles at 80mph and the last 140 at about 70-75 mph ive just worked out the fuel economy and it was 51.8 mpg which is mighty impressive especially as i wasnt even attempting to drive efficiantly

I suspect a faulty garage petrol pump but is this possible ?

Filled the tank up to when the nozzle stops due to detecting a pressure i.e. petrol in the filler tube - and re-filled with 19.8 litres after 262 miles with 3 people in car, fair bit of luggage, motorway at 70 mph all the way. Defective nozzle meant fuel spilled out so the tank was apparently full.

That's 60 mpg.

Maybe airlocks in the tank or faulty garage pump undermeasuring fuel delivered but this seems an unlikely figure; but welcome if real.

Anyone confirm this is possible with a 1 ltr Vibe ?

I only get 62-63 mpg to work, self only in car at 60 mph on duel carriageway, so a 2 mpg drop with 2 more people, heavy luggage & 10 mph faster appears unreal.
