Big Dog Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 I have a C5 HDI Exclusive on 01 plate. I have noticed that when i reach certain speeds 60 -70mph, the sterring wheel shudders like a bitch. I have now noticed that i can grab steering wheel and wobble it from side to side and top to bottom. Feels as if its going to come of in hands. Ihave been told that this is a comman fault with this age of c5. Any ideas? Also rear drivers door wont open, severe clutch judder. Think i'l get rid of it. Any one want it ? Regards Big Dog Quote

Regards Big DogWheel balance on all 4 wheels will help. Severe clutch judder is probable siezed thrust bearings or splines =new clutch. Door locks stick if not lubricated or child lock has been fiddled with. Steering wheel has some play if you wobble it hard enough, try releasing the steering column adjuster and push it fully towards the dash and nip up the adjuster handle. There you go £250 quid and a couple of hours fiddling spent on it and you have a damn good car. Quote

Got a local garage in Byker called Centreville, who deals in Citroens. He tightend up steering wheel for my for nowt. Nice man. He then gave me bad news that steering rack needs replacing and would be looking at good couple hundred quid for work, and that my two front struts were leaking. Not leaking bad but MOT might fail due to it. To cap it all off my timing belt went this mornig, and nearly fainted when was quoted two prices £500 -£1000 to fix. Think i will send it to when all french cars go when they have had it. Thanks anyway. Big Dog Quote

Centreville are a very, very good specialist and you can trust them m8, I do and all my family take their C5's there too. They know what is what. How old is the car Big Dog? It all depends on how much you want to keep the car but if the value is below the repair bill I would suggest that it would be best to get rid too m8.That's the only problem I have found with C5's, they are so bloody complicated to be able to work on yourself. Especially in comparison to cars of a similar age. If you have some sort of storage area like a garage you could remove & sell the parts off it within three weeks or so. Many Alfa owners do this and I know of two guys who have actually bought newer models than they originally had with the profit off Ebay/ forum sales alone! Then all you do then is just get a scrap merchant to recover the body shell £50! Crazy to think a complete car is worth a lot less than spares these days. It's worth thinking about m8. Quote

If you know any one who needs parts gis a shout. Just put a new £280 exhaust on it, only a month old. Thanks for all your advice. Quote
