Guest bettyboop Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Hi can anyone help me? When I am driving I keep getting this squeaking everytime i turn left coming from the rear, my husband has had the wheel off brushed all the dirt away etc. Driving to to work fine, on way home from work it started again but not as loud. When I wash the car it seems to go away then come back. It also seems to start when the car has been running for about 15 minutes and gets louder and louder as you carry on with your journey. Does anybody know what this could be?????? Please help its drving me mad :o Quote

stimulator Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Have you got disc brakes or drum brakers on the rear? If it's drums then I'd say as the previous poster that the rubber bushes may be dry. If you do have discs maybe the pads are touching the disc. If a caliper or piston is jammed then the pad will be mis-positioned on the slider, this will allow it to float too much. As the car corners the centrifugal force will throw it against the disc where it will rub and make a noise. Do you have disc on the rear, Quote

The squeaking only happens when the cars is warmed up, its fine just a five min journey but say i have been going on a 15 min journey the squeaking appears, my husband seems to thinks it is like some kind of bearing ?????? Any advice would be appreciated Quote
techbod Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 is it a squeak or a rumble? a rumble would say wheel bearing and it gets louder the faster you go Quote
stimulator Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Ok so you've got discs on the rear and it's OK on very short journeys. As you corner does slightly pulling the handbrake lever make it worse or better? As you corner does a very slight pressure on the brake pedal make it worse or better. my bet would be that one of the pads is loose in the caliper and is 'falling against the disc' on cornering. This could be due to a small warp in the disc itself which causes the pads to retract further as it 'knocks' them back into the piston. Quote

techbod Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 that's a different squeak more a clutch thrust bearing or you can hear a wheel bearing on the same side and because it get louder when going faster my prognosis would be the wheel bearing but not being there it might be something else so lets hope its the wheel bearing and not the tranny Quote
