Guest rorydoyle2.2hdi Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 hi, this is my first post on here so i'll start from the start. i currently drive (and love) my 2.2hdi c5 manual with 251,900 miles on it and drives perfect never a problem with it and it gets the height of hardship, its a working car which is usually towing something! It even got lost at sea when it slid down a boat launch ramp and went swimming. amazingly the car drove home that day. Anyway i bought a 2.2hdi automatic c5 that wasnt starting was assured it was the high pressure pump needed replacing so i swapped it from my manual c5 into the auto c5 and vice versa. still not starting and the manual one is fine... so i proceeded to swap everything from one to the other which includes high pressure pump, with regulator and tpd intactfuel filter housingcommon rail sensorall injectorscam sensorl/p pump in tankflywheel sensorecu sent to ecu doctor, decoded and refittedfully timed up with timing pins still not starting and the other one is? does anyone have any ideas, i love my manual c5 and cant wait to drive my auto c5 exclusive se. thanks for any help or advise in advance. techbod Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 well you've covered most things that would stop it starting so lets look at some others, coolant temp sensor / glow plugs / fuel shut off switch / fuses, so it cranks and you can hear the fuel pump cycle for a second when you turn the ignition key on? there is a good earth to the engine ( even if it cranks it will not start without that ) and lastly the immobilizer? Quote
Guest rorydoyle2.2hdi Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 yep changed coolant temp sensor all fuses were good, even took em all out (and checked on a meter because i was fooled by a fuse before that looked good and was blown)! all ignition lights are on, the pump comes on, starter has full power (770amp battery) and the immobiliser in the ecu has been de-coded when it was tested. apparently they dont have a fuel shut off valve, the ecu shuts off in an accident, earth is clean and tight. i'm running out of ideas here, im in the process of testing the loom now but i'm fairly sure its good there's no visible damage anywhere. thanks again in advance for any help, i do appreciate any theories... kfk Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 You seem to be going about your diagnosis in a fit it and see type manner...... Have you got fuel coming out of the pump in tank when you crank the engine? Have you got power supplies and earths to the injection ecu? Have you had anyone read the fault codes on the car? Have you checked the compressions of the engine? I feel you need to go back to basics, so far you have spent a lot of time and effort and achieved a list of things it isnt. Quote
Guest rorydoyle2.2hdi Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 ive changed quite a lot of regulators, common rail sensors and fuel filter housing's on hdi's due to substandard dirty diesel over here, and fitted an in-line filter under the cars, thats why i started with the sensors. the ecu has been reset and de-coded and since it hasn't been running there is no trouble codes detected. ive had the rocker cover and cam shafts off and primed the tappets as some get lazy, and timed up perfect. compression is good on all four cylinders, and will fire on easy start. i dont have any wiring diagram for the ecu plugs to check for power and earth (its the bosch edc15c2 3plug type) does anyone have any ideas which pins are power and earth on the plugs? i didnt think id have this much trouble getting it going as my own manual car has over 1/4 million miles on it and drives perfect since i put the additional fuel filter on it at 175k miles thanks again people, and all advice and theories are welcome. Guest rorydoyle2.2hdi Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 THANKS A MILLION, ive scoured the net and even downloaded the revue technique in french to try and find readings for plugs and sensor parameters etc. thanks again, any ideas as to what it could be now? i'm gonna go out and check out the plugs now.
