robcmar Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Owned the car for 20 hours and here are my first queries/problems ! The display for constant mpg read out not only gives me 42.5, 62.3, 72.4 etc but random three figures without the decimal point such as 999, 140, 723 etc. Am I missing something here or is this wrong and how do I sort it ? When I went into the menu - vehicle config - deactivate rear wiper that was OK but it doesn't give me any more options to configure e.g. the lights staying on for a short period after ignition is switched off. Is this a fault I need the dealer to sort or am I missing something when pressing all the a, b and c buttons ? Cheers. Quote
stimulator Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Welcome to your new car, enjoy. The computer for MPG gives as you say an average that is the reading that also shows a ----- line on one side of the car. This naturally changes as you drive depending upon the conditions. Note that it is best left alone and only reset by pressing and holding the end knob in at car refuel time. The other reading is the instantaneous readout and shows what mpg you are doinbg at that instant. No there are times when the car will be using no fuel as you go along and it will show 999 mpg, The reason it does this is that what you are using is zero fuel so you are going an infinate distance on it. The calculation tops out at 999. If you set the car to litres per kilometer then it shows 0 at these times. So you are sitting at the traffic lights, firest thing to note is that the instant readout will be dashes as it only shows at speeds above 9 mph or 19 mph on later cars. So yous et off and when the trigger speed is reached the readout springs into life. On my 1.4 and 1.6 HDi it shos as little as 28 mpg under heavy accel and as much as 999 on the overrun. Note however it takes time to respond and is not quite instantaneous. The readings are distance from last reset of computer, distance to next fill, based on the average mpg, average mph since last reset, time/date As for car config that is very limited. To gets the lights to stay on on both of ours yuo ahve to pull the headlight dip/flash lever towards you after the lights are turned OFF. The heads then come on again for 90 secs. Quote

Thanks for the mpg answer. I eventually realised about the headlight dip after turning off the engine but the lights only stay on for about 20 seconds and I'd like that to be increased a little. Is there anyway to do this ? Quote

No thats the Set time. On my Mark 1 C3 they used to stay on for 60 secs. As For The Trip Computer I reset it every time I fell. My New C2 has been doing really well on Fuel. Ive had 55mpg out of of it on a run and around town it does 42mpg. On the 1st bar ive had 65 miles out of it. I do put it in Neutral alot going down hill. Quote
arrows Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Yes my 1.6 HDi Exclusive gives the constant readouts of 42.5, 62.3, 72.4 etc - I can only assume it is due to the conversion from litres to gallons. I also find the computer very innaccurate - I have checked my fuel consumption manually and can confirm that it reads about 5 - 6 mpg on the optimistic side, so I don't take much notice of it now.. stimulator Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Strangely the readouts on the two C3 are different. the 54 reg 1.5 shows 61.4 the 07 1.6 shows 61.7 for the same readings. Yes it is due to litres/KM being changed to mpg and can only assume that the conversion factor has been changed slightly in its last digits to give a quicker calc. The 07 reg was appaling on MPG when first bougt, averaged 51, which was only 2 more than the Picasso it replaced, now it is up to 64 which is good. As for getting the book figures dreamland really, especially in the days of traffic jams and rush hour traffice, driving during the quieter periods return better figs but then who wants to go out at 3 Am? paul.h Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 'I do put it in Neutral alot going down hill.' I am not sure this is a good idea. First if the engine is in neutral it will be using fuel to run at idle speed, when if going downhill in gear with the foot off the accelerator and clutch pedals then the fuel to the engine should be shut off - so in neutral it may use more fuel. Other thing is you are supposed to not have as much control over the car - we have some learner driver books in our house at the moment and this is not advised. Quote
