I have the smelly aircon' back again . Done all the usual stuff , cleaned the pollen filter ( which is fairly new ) used the antibacterial in the system , better for a while ,but has returned real quick.

I have noticed that there is no drain puddle under the car when it's parked after the aircon ahs been used , there always used to be . I think the drain must be blocked . Does anyone know where the drain is and how to unblock it ???

I assumed it dripped on the exhaust and boiled away .I've never seen drips under my C5

The drain from the air con comes out of the side of the box at the left side of the drivers footwell and connects here to a rubber hose which from memory comes out above the diesel fuel cooler under the car below the driver's seat area. To access the top of the hose connection you need to remove the driver's left foot rest and the plastic covers to the left of the foot rest. You can then try pouring water down the hose to see if it is clear. However, a quick easier way is to put the cabin fan on full, directed to the centre vents and then close the vents - air should be felt blowing out from the end of the hose under the car if it is clear.

I have found Dettol surface cleanser (non bleach) in the clear hand spray bottle is effective. Problem with the C5 is the matrix is quite long (when the pollen filter is removed) so trying to spray over all of it is not easy. I have recently bought a garden spray with a lance that can reach to the end of the matrix through the opening for the pollen filter but have still to give it a go.

Thanks Paul...Found the drain hose , quiite easy to get at following your route , Took the hose off where it connects at the bottom of the unit and a fair bit of water came out , so I attached a garden sprayer to the hose and there was a bit of resistance before the water started to show under the car and there was some green/black sludge that came out of the hose...which stank .So I reckon the hose was blocked as there is the puddle back when I stop after using the aircon as there use to be .This seems to have cured the stink as well. Thanks for the advice ...

At the weekend I finally got round to using the garden spray. It is a Hozelock Promo 5 litre sprayer which has a short lance and a small angled spray nozzle which easily reaches in to the end of the air con evaporator matrix once the pollen filter is removed. Gave the matrix a good spray over the full length with the Dettol non bleach surface cleanser and left it to dry overnight. It also dripped out of the drain hose to the ground. The previous smell has now completely gone although it was not that bad. This cleanser does not leave any other perfumed smell either. A google search will find the sprayer.

Sounds like a plan . Thanks for sharing that , mine is ok at the moment but come the spring it'll be rotten again.
