Guest Visa10E Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Ive just had 2 new tyres fitted to the front of my 02 C5 2.2HDi Exclusive, and since then the steering wheel is not straight as if its turning right slightly and the car pulls to the left on the motorway, I took it back to 2 separate places to check the tracking and both times it came out fine, anyone have any clues? Could it be a steering/brake problem? Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I took it back to 2 separate places to check the tracking and both times it came out fine, The tracking might well look correct but the steering wheel needs to be central before starting any adjustment. A good workshop will clamp the steering before starting. Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 sounds like whoever is doing your tracking isnt doing it right because as JD says the steering wheel must be centered before starting to adjust it Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Like I said I only had the tracking checked, I'll take it back and get it done properly. I checked the tyre pressures earlier and one or two were low, once I'd pumped them up it partially sorted the problem, didnt realise how sensitive these things were to tyre pressures! Quote
paul.h Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I have had this before on other cars, fit new tyres of a different make to the old and the car then pulls to one side and found nothing wrong. Were the old tyres worn unevenly to indicate a tracking problem, if not I would be tempted to fit the new ones at the back and see if the steering reverts back to normal. It is often recommended to fit the best tyres at the rear to avoid possible rear end skidding. I assume the new tyres are both identical although possibly not the same as the rear. Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Its a pair of £58 budgets on the front, and ive got Michelin Winter tyres on the back which were on the car when I bought it and are spot on still Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Ive just took the damn thing back twice in a day to try and resolve the situation and they are swapping the front and back tyres round as we speak so fingers crossed as I'm ready to torch this poxy car Quote

Never again. I would suggest that you get your last brake test out from the MOT - sometimes you will find a that the brake drag figures when the brakes are off can suggest a solution to you. Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 This problem only started after I had the tyres fitted, I hope swapping them will have cured it as Ive got Michelins on the back Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Got the Michelins on the front now and hey presto - problem solved! Quote
Randombloke Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Got the Michelins on the front now and hey presto - problem solved! Please can you tell us what the "budget" tyres were so we can avoid them. Many thanks. Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 They're called Milanzahli Hereos - and no, Ive never heard of them either, what a crap name! Quote
