Haunted Rear Suspension

The rear suspension on my 2003 2.2 Exclsuive estate has started making some really weird groaning and squeeking noises.

When I park the car and switch off the engine, the rear of the cars settles, but ass it does so it makes a noise like a haunted house door!

Also when driving along in normal driving it seems to squeek a lot, it may have done this for a while and I haven't noticed.

As the car has done 161K and is 7 years old I really don't want to be trawling around garages who know little or nothing of the C5 quirks

It is something simple and (in C5 terms) cheap to fix?

Good indy in Selby area would be nice

Many thanks

In view of mileage and your description it may be that the rear arm bearings are worn. Try putting the suspension on high then standing back from the rear of the car. The wheels may look a bit like /----\ this.

Thx, JD, is it a big i.e. ££££ job or relatively cheap (In C5 terms), specialist or local garage.

The reason I ask is that the tax is due end of month and MOT two weeks later

It's one of those jobs where the parts are relatively reasonable - about 50 quid per side - but it's also a four or five hour job to do, which knocks up the cost. It's the same suspension system that's been used for more than 20 years on BX's and Xantias so the forums have plenty of information on DIY.
