hertsnminds Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 My standard spec VTR+ does not have a CD player that can read MP3 discs. So it must just be the JBL upgrade that does. Ian Black 55 VTR+ Quote
wozza Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Thought it might be looks like its time for that upgrade then in january. Getmyself a nice Alpine MP3 unit. Or see if i can find someone selling a nakamichi headunit would look better since they have a nearly OEM look and they sound amazing. Then again they usually come with an equally impressive price tag. Quote

wozza Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Not all of them are bad with reliability heard loads of problems with pioneers motorized system and alpines not working in the winter yet people still buy them. But on the uphand they do sound awesome the nak units. but i have got a deal on an Alpine 9855r so im gonna be puttin gthat unit in along with 1 sub and a set of components. disconnect rear speakers dont want em. ham's c4vts Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 hi wozza, could you pass on any info youve got regarding putting the alpine head unit in your c4 as ive got one from my xsara and want to put it in my c4 but cant get hold of an adapter lead without having to cut into the cars wiring loom. Any websites, contact info would be of great help. thanks, Ham (Jamie) black 55 c4 vts Quote
wozza Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 You need a bmw aerial adaptor, and bmw iso adaptor then the fun starts. You basically have to chop half the wires and change them about to get it in. Honestly worth just taking somewhere and asking them to do it as it took 2 guys at my local audio place an hour to do mine. Cant really show you without ripping it apart again. I do have my components amps and sub going in there though when they get delivered. But having someone install the components cause well i dont fancy taking that dash apart. And since there getting amped anyways just told him to install the rest for me as well. Normaly would have done it myself but the reason i got them to fit it was because we werent sure how it was gonna be with the multiplex wiring heard of issue so had it running at the back of the shop for an hour to make sure so i could have got refunded had it all gone wrong. ham's c4vts Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 ok thanks, i'll leave it until someone does an adapter for it, as the original set doesnt sound to bad. thanks again for you help Quote
wozza Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 When i take mine back in to the car audio centre in a few days i can ask them exactly what they did. The adaptors wont be out for a few months though i sent alpine an email asking when they will have a steering wheel remote adaptor ready they said 6 - 12 months. its still in development :/ everywhere i asked about adaptors i got the same answer cars too new and wiring system to complex no one makes anything for them. wozza Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Just ordered my nice new sub now awaiting delivery of one of these bad boys. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...cedee0c7ea82b98 Also got the Alpine MRV-T420 to power my front components. Subs getting powered by the Alpine MRD-M605 Couldnt really afford to get brilliant amps as well as everything else so gonna keep this until the summer than i will think about selling them on and buying something better. Front components not settled on yet depends what happens when i go into the shop and how much money i end up spending. Quote
wozza Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Took delivery of that sub today my god is it heavy! I was sat there thinking cheeky ***oops*** delivery guy when he just dropped it off leaving it just at the door downstairs in the lobby. I went to pick it up and frick me. I have a funny feeling my rear suspension is gonna be lower after its fitted tomorrow. Quote
Grumble Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Does changing the Cd player screw around with the all the facilities that you access through the Factory fitted unit ? Quote
wozza Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 No as they can still be accessed from the steering wheel. Only thing you loose is the radio info on the main screen but you dont really need it there and on the headunit do ya? Got my system fitted today sounded awesome then on my way home my sub amp has decided it wants to go into protection mode and also my new components sound worse than the ones i had in as stock so i want it sorting tomorrow. Quote
Grumble Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 Thanks Wozza, I was thinking more about the Engine managment diagnostics and Rear Screen wiper settings e.t.c. can they be access thru the steering wheel ? not that the rear wiper setting is a major issue in my life  Quote
wozza Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 Can be accessed with the teering wheel controls at the bottom right. And the diagnostic can be run by pressing the button next to the speedo. Everything still works fine. I just leave my central screen displaying my petrol consumption figures though. Which seems to be going up now. Getting 32 - 33mpg around town now rather than 26 - 29mpg. Think the engine is starting to loosen up a lot more. Car also feels like its got a bit more power too. My system work again. Although been adjusted slightly sub has been turned down on the amp and speakers have all been turned up. Just both fuses on my sub amp decided to go they werent good enough for the job so put some larger ones in. Working brilliantly now. Unless if playing it loud for a while then it likes to just stop working for a few seconds but its really loud not comfortable to listen to so who gives a crap lol. Quote
Grumble Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Cheers Wozza, unfortunatly this VTR owner dont have anything at the bottom right of the sterring wheel.:( 'cept for a blank insert. Have i been conned. Quote
wozza Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 So theres no menu or escape buttons etc? ..I thought that was on all of them :S In your case then yes you would probably not be able to ccess wiper settings etc but how often do you actually change the settings? I set mine up the way i liked it and have not touched it since. I pretty much leave everything on auto. But i suppose if you swap the stuff around its only a 5 minute job to swap the headunit back in and change it all. Quote
Grumble Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Nope, not a thing  Must be a VTR+ VTS fitment. Anyway as you say changing the head unit is a 5 min job. Your sound system all sorted now ? Did you have to ditch the autochanger in you armrest ? Quote
wozza Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Thats an odd one :/ Kinda of a shame see all the sections of my steering wheel have buttons. But yeah system is sorted now pretty much will get a picture up of it in a little bit. I did blow yet another fuse last night though was a 60AMP one this time since turned the sub down again. Seems to be fine now just went for a 30 mile drive and had it at normal listening volume and a bit higher hasnt blown even when i was playing things such as the prodigy and korn it seemed to cope pretty well when the low notes came on. Was funny going into halfords and told them i just blew the fuse in my car hes like so put a bigger one in if this is the 2nd time its gone so i said alright then its got a 60AMP in there now what you got thats bigger....At this point he said nothing. And wanted to know the details of the system and see it. We came to the conclusion that im perhaps drawing slightly too much power from the standard battery. So i may need to upgrade that next. But to be honest i replaced the fuse turned down the sub and it seems to be coping rather well now i dont get any of my interior lights dimming no more anyways. My rev counter etc was dimming when the low bass notes came through but seems perfect now and sounds better. Quote
wozza Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Here ya go just for the sake of showing it my boot install. And the foldout boot partition still works perfectly as well lol. The sub has a few cm between it and the divider. Quote
Grumble Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Effing hell, thats a lot of power there. Nice pics tho...maybe u can provide a sound file also ? Only the top right and left modules are populated on the VTR steering gadget, one for the Lim/Reg and the other is Radio/CD volume etc etc. Quote
wozza Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 ahh see on bottom right VTR+ gets menu mode esc etc for changing car settings. And changing the central display to radio, cdinfo, mpg info etc think we also get a different central screen do we not? I know theres 3 screen types one like mine andother one and then the sat nav type one. And bottom left steering is the dimmer for the internal lights recirculation for the climate control etc. And i dont think i have a microphone that could handle the power put out by the system. But will have a look see if i can get a sample. But yeah the system has over 1000w RMS But if we go on advertised figures for the amps the big numbers. Its closer to 4000w. Its loud but it sounds nice its not like when you hear the chavs driving down the street and all you can hear is the sub thumping. Its nicely balanced and you can only hear the sub play a major part when you really crank the volume up the rest of the time its in the background just adding to the sound. Just makes it much richer but when you play some korn or something which has a lot of bass guitar in it. It sounds awesome! C4 really does have a fairly big boot though. I can still get a suitcase etc in there and the weekly shop without a problem. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 nice install, do you have an ipod adapter in there aswell? and your a bit nesh arnt you looking at your temp display lol Quote
wozza Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 No no ipod adaptor dont like ipods i bought a zen xtra had better sound quality just didnt look as pretty or was as small. But i was more concerned about how it sounded. And nesh? Install sounds great though had the gorillaz on earlier and can tell the sub is breaking in now just seems more responsive and not just a thump anymore at times can actually tell the notes on the bass guitars etc sounds lovely. And new fuses i put in seem to be doing better not blown one yet even when i have been driving the sub really hard. Can turn it up without a problem now. Quote
wozza Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 23 with the fan on halfway isnt that hot to be honest. But that was just heating the cabin up a bit normally half it set at HI when i first get in and crank the fan all the way up to the 8th setting and sit like that till my eyes start drying out then knock it back to 23 and half the fan on setting 2 open window for a few seconds and then sorted perfect temp lol. Its just freezing when i get in it at the moment so i do anything to get it warm lol. can quite often see me driving through manchester with my jacket covering my fingers cause that leather steering wheel gets bloody cold at times. And for grumble i tried to record a sound file. What happened was i got some nice mids and treble then the bass kicked in and then the recording went PFFFFFT PFFFFFFT PFFFFFFT when the sub kicked in. Just wasnt happening. But i did use the remote control for the headunit today got outside the car at my parents and cranked it up while i was outside wanted to see how loud it is to other people. No wonder i get looks off people! fk me its loud! Then again around 1000W RMS going through those speakers. Its not gonna be quite. Quote
