Guest Lightning Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Just got home with new Glow Plugs and the probes on these are 29mm long and ones coming out are 24mm long. Can i fit these or will they hit the pistons? I have put some masking tape around an old one to make it longer and just turned the engine over and it does not appear that anything hits it. Don't want to do any damage but wanted to do today. Any thoughts? Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I think they've given you the wrong type. I've got old glowplugs kicking around in the garage and most of them are 24mm long. All out of past BX and Xantia XUD's - the same engine as yours. A glowplug is hottest at the tip and a 24mm plug just reaches into the jet from the injector. A longer one will go through it and out the otherside. I would go back to the shop and get them to check the number again. Quote

Just for information do the plugs go into a separate void or into the top of the cylinders? Quote

Your's is an XUD which is an Indirect injection engine. It has a pre-combustion chamber in the cylinder head where the tips of the injectors and glowplugs are. Apart from the valves the underside of the cylinder head is flat. Quote
