C2 Vtr Sensedrive Problem

hey was wondering if anyone can help i hav a 1.6 vtr c2 sensedrive since the snow at beginning of the year it started making a whining noice like when the fanbelt is going found out it wasnt that and that the starter had burnt out so got a new one and had that put on but was still making the noice and was burning the starter out again someone said to me it mite b the flywheel what is this and anyone no if it will be this and is it expensive to have done please.

Does it make the noise all the time or just when starting the engine ? When you turn the ignition key, a cog on the starter motor engages with the gear teeth on the outside of the flywheel (which is on the end of the engine crankshaft) and then turns it until the engine starts, you let go of the ignition key and the starter cog disengages the flywheel. If this cog sticks it may not be released from the flywheel and give a whining noise - possible causes of this can include damage to the flywheel teeth or a problem with the starter motor or its electrical supply. Flywheel replacement I would think will be several hundred for parts and a few hours work since the gearbox needs removing.
