Checked the M.A.F sensor today - all ok.

Took it to the garage to plug in diagnostics to find fault codes. Came up with particulate filter blocked, advised to replace. All fault codes that came up are all based around the filter.

Have booked it in to be done.

Will Have to see what happens when it is done. :)

Don't know the answer, Paul, but if you find out can you let us know on forum as I'm after one myself for the Berlingo.

Was told that the hand held code readers will only read codes from the lower codes i.e. 0 to 1099, therefore not all codes are read and some information will be missed Not a good idea to buy the cheap one on ebay

Not sure if this helps but I had a regular ESP/ASR fault coming up on my 05 C5 HDi. As it was not causing any other problems I just lived with it for months. When I next took it into my local Citroen dealer (to get the vacuum pump for my brake servo replaced - 10min job and only £20 if ever you have a similar issue of brakes not working when first starting up) the guy there, who's really good on C5's says that there was a known fault with the brake switch which causes the ESP/ASR fault to keep coming up. This made sense as I remembered it only seemed to come on when I was braking and then stayed on until the engine was stopped and started again.

Apparantly the original spec switch is italian and the contacts are not very good (it has two sets). Citroen's fix for this is a new switch and wiring harness adapter which again took only 10 mins to fit and the princely sum of around £45 all in. Bit of a pleasant change from the usual main dealer prices.

Anyway, after the new switch was fitted I haven't had a single issue with the ESP/ASR fault coming up.

I have had a similar experience with my 1.6 hdi. I was told at first it was a faulty high pressure fuel pump ( replaced under warranty at 56,000 miles ). this didn't cure the fault. The dealer then changed the fuel rail, again under warranty, thank goodness. Again no cure. I then took the car to a different dealer who diagnosed a blocked fuel filter. This I had to pay for ( £50.00 ) but it did cure the fault and have had no trouble since. It is possible to buy the filter from non- franchise suppliers for around £10 and do it yourself but it seems to be a bit awkward.
