Guest Shutch Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Having had my 1995 Xantia diesel saloon for 6 years without any snags at all,the suspention started getting very hard ,so I have replaced the 4 spheres, however since then, I can feel every cobble in the street. The tyre pressures are correct, it feels like the suspention is not working for the first couple of inch ? We still have plenty of cobbles in Lancashire! So any ideas would be very welcome lads ?? Johndouglas Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 What's the LHM like? Is it reasonably fresh? Is the level correct? Check on max. height for the yellow disc being between the two red rings. Are the new spheres correct for the car? Hydractive take different ones from Non-H. Also saloons different from estates. Even different between front axle and rear. Quote

John Thanks for your reply, New LHM Fluid, Spheres carefully checked before fitting for spcification. Max height yellow disc appears to be stuck in top position,Could this mean 'over fill',also I have not changed the Centre sphere under the bonnet ? Thanks again Shutch Quote

The float could be stuck by overfill but being too full doesn't cause any problems. Only likely to be messy if it overflows. Remove the filler bung and if you can just touch the surface of the fluid with a finger, then it's about right. Regarding the accumulater sphere; how many times per minute do you hear the pressure regulator open. If it's twice, that's OK. More times then maybe it should be changed. Quote
Guest fs2811 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Does the car 'sink' quickly after you've turned the engine off? If so, the front and rear centre spheres may also need to be changed, especially if they're the original factory-fitted ones. Does the steering feel a bit heavy? It is also worth having the ride height checked by an indepedent Citroen garage, who will have the proper adjustment tools. Just being slightly out of adjustment can make the ride quality harsh. C5-Nigel Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 There are six spheres on most basic xantias and a vsx has eight all togethersounds like you also need to replace the accumulator sphere at the front and possibly the ride heightsphere at the back. The rear centre sphere is a bit of a pig to do on the vsx model. The accumulator sphere should tick about once every 1 minute 30 seconds. Quote
