clanixion Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 I eventually got round to removing the radio cassette from the dash and fitted my trusty Sony CD player. The Sony slotted in a treat and works lovely but the clock display on the dash has gone mad. The clock comes up when you switch on the ignition but then doesn't update, the date had gone completely. The door open warnings appear but then don't go away when the door has closed. So the question has got to be is there a CD player which is compatable with the existing set up. I have tried to look at citroen.co.uk pages but the prices are daft. Ideally a multichanger that slots into the existign radio would be good so if anyone knows what makes can be used then let me know. Quote
StephenM Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 I am selling my kenwood front loader and buying a Blaupunkt multichanger unit - I will check with Citroen that it works - this may be the best way to go! Quote
Trigg Posted April 23, 2003 Posted April 23, 2003 According to my local dealer there have been a lot of probs with cd players causing havoc with the display and also the Engine Managment unit. Citroen are in the process of making up a list of compatible units. As for the prices on the web site, don't trust them. I got my local dealer to supply and fit the CD player (which is a Clarion multichanger compatible) for £200. All I need to do now is find out what speakers are compatible so I can upgrade the 'paper' ones that are standard fit. Quote
StephenM Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 £200 is still steep when you consider you can get a good sony/kenwood/jvc unit 4x45watts for £100 - £150! As for speakers, I replaced my old paper ones in the saxo i used to have with sony (not sure of the model name) - the were £29.99 a pair in halfords and fitted in - although citroen rivited theirs in and it took a while to remove them. The difference was amazing, a worthwile upgrade - I will do mine eventually once the multichanger is linked up. Quote

I fitted a Sony CD/MP3 player without problems, have you disconnected and insulated the 3-wire data bus from the back of your new head unit? You should also remove the steering column control. Quote

Wooaaaa there boyyyyyyy ! Can you make the instructions a wee bitty simpler for the hard of understanding ? What 3 wires and where are they and what do they look like ? Cheers Andy Quote
SteveL Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 > Have you disconnected and insulated the 3-wire data bus > Can you make the instructions a wee bitty simpler Hi Andy, Turn to page 60 of your Citroen handbook to see a diagram of the Radio Connector layout and wiring. If you do not have this diagram, email me off list and I will send it to you. Cut and separately insulate the following wires to disable the standard radios connection to the display and vehicle multiplex. Connector A terminal 2 - Orange wire, A3 – Blue, A4 - Green. This will prevent your Sony unit interfering with the existing wiring. Three wires are now left in Connector Block A, A6 – Pink (+ via key), A7 - White (+ permanent), A8 - Green/Yellow (earth). You will now need to determine if the connector and wire positions are correct for your Sony unit. Connector Block B is fully used for the speaker wires only. The Remote Control can be pulled out by depressing a catch on the underside of the mounting. You will need to remove both steering column covers to do this. Steve Quote
clanixion Posted April 30, 2003 Author Posted April 30, 2003 Okay Dokey. I dosconnected the wires as advised. Turned out that only the green wire was connected. When I disconnect that it cuts power to the CD player. Plug it back in and the CD player works. Andy Quote
SteveL Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 > Only the green wire was connected. > When I disconnect that it cuts power to the CD player. Hi Andy, 2 possibilities come to mind: 1) You have cut the Green and Yellow striped wire instead of the Green one. 2) The remaining 3 Citroen wires (Pink, White and Green/Yellow) are incorrectly wired to your Sony CD player. Refer to your Sony instructions to determine the correct interconnections. If you don’t have them, try the following (this is how my player is wired) Citroen.....................Used For.......................................Sony Pink..........................+ via key.........................to...........Red White.......................+ permanent...................to...........Yellow Green/Yellow............- Earth............................to............Black Hope this helps. Steve. Quote
clanixion Posted May 27, 2003 Author Posted May 27, 2003 Righto, Eventually got round to rewiring the CD player as you suggested but to no avail. I tried to unwire the steering column control but have no idea what I am looking for. There are three connectors at the back of the column blue, brown and grey. I tried disconnecting each of the three in turn but none of them allowed the clock to update. Andy Quote
